1869 Shield Nickel (possible MPD - not listed)

I picked up a 1869 Shield Nickel with what appears, to me, a possible misplaced digit to the right of the date. I did not see this on the PCGS or NGC variety pages, but I did not have access to Howard Spindel's @howards variety website and needed to make a decision rather quickly.

What do you think?

Looks like something there but can't tell for sure. Why would any numeral be that far right of where the actual date should be? Pareidolia??

I am thinking pareidolia, but it's tough to tell from the photos. It does look like there may be repunching north on the last digit of the date.

@Steven59 the Shield Nickel series has some wildly mpd identified. I will be able to further evaluate the coin when I get it in hand.

Seemingly, "Shakes" the die setter may have had a rough weekend and could not hit his mark the first time.

I believe this was eventually determined to be a logotype error, the date was originally applied to the die with either a quarter or half dollar date punch.

I see a vague outline out in the field well to the right of the 9, but I have no idea what it is. Could you please try a few more images with slightly less magnification, and move the light source around a bit to vary its direction.

Looking at the upper left serif of the wide set 1 I would say that it was a quarter dollar logotype.

Looks like a ghost number 9 digit.

My apologies for my delay on reporting back on this. There is something there... at least I am wanting to see something.
