Are new rc's overpriced?

I just want to know how a tinsley or tony parker rc is worth just as much as a james worthy or charles barkley rookie card.

How a mcgrady refractor is worth just as much the magic/bird/drj rookie.


Exactly what did mcgrady do that put him the league of a magic/bird rookie card?

New rookie cards have nowhere to go, but down! Think about it



p.s I feel sorry for you gameused collectors. I hope most of you just collect to waste money.

    I think it's about production numbers. Back in the day they produced 10x the number of sets they do now. It isn't that T-Mac deserves to be up there with Bird and Magic, its that there were fewer of his Chrome Refractors produced. Before 96/97, no one knew what "short print" was, including card companies

    just think how short printed a magic/bird/drj rookie was compared to now. Plus they had mainly 1 rookie card back then and no bs. Everybody now has atleast 50 rc's.

    There is no such thing as a short printed rc unless it's a 1/1 and still they will make another one. How is a mcgrady regular topps chrome worth just as much as a charles barkley 86-87 fleer? Atleast barkley took his team to the finals and he won a mvp.


    I don't get it. I'm not trying to pick on mcgrady, but what exactly has he done yet? It's funny when you iverson rc's 50 times higher than a isiah thomas rookie. Isiah atleast lead his team to a title.

    winsarc. I just do- Gameused will end up being commons and I already feel most of us have already realized this for quite some time. Some might say patches will hold value- blah blah

    Since makers know now that collectors want patches - how many more do you think are gonna be on the market? I'm just saying don't look forward for your items to hold value. I'm glad I collect for the hell of it and not for profit.

    How is a tinsley rookie card going to hold value if a michael jordan rookie card can't even hold value?

    Who's pricing? Beckett's? Beckett is only doing what they have to do to sell NEW cards. That being to start the price high so that the average under-informed collector goes crazy for it. Then in a few months they blame the hype that they created as the reason it drops. Classic sidestep...

    That is so true about the current hype of the modern cards. That is why Vintage collectors are so smart. They know that Isiah is a find and pick it up. They by low and it only will raise in MONEY value while they already value the player and what he brought to the game.


    P.S. I love the nick of one of the members here. It is "waitilltheytrytosell". Just check out the "HOT" cards from 2 years ago. They are not so hot anymore...

    I definately think game used prices will drop, just look at what Fleer has done to the Vince Carters. You can get them cheap because there's so many. But most people I believe collect for the fun of it and not for money. Just my thoughts.

    Its nice to hear a real opinion from you instead of one laced with how Titho ( or whomever ) can cry to his moma.

    We dont always agree, but you nailed it dude. GU is going to be the GUnk of the common bins in a few years. Hell in September UD even is coming out with SP Game used with a jersey card a pack. It will be fun to rip, but the second the seal is busted ont he pack its a worthless card in most cases.

    Most people now want GU in a box, bag that-hope you get the auto instead. Any GU before 1999 is worth something, anything after that date is worthless

    ebok, you are right. I don't understand how modern rc's are worth as much as rookie cards of established players. For example a 1999 Bowman Chrome Austin Kearns rc is worth $40!! Kearns isn't even a 2nd year player and his rookie card is worth more than a 1993 Bowman Derek Jeter rc!!! It is simply stupid. And like you said the only thing these cards can do is go down. Another example is Sammy Sosa, 1 of his rookie cards is worth $5, but an Adam Dunn rc is worth about 5x that amount. Larry Walker has better stats that Adam Dunn and is an established all-star, but Adam Dunns rc is worth much more than a larry walker rc. So I think modern rookie cards are way overpriced.

    Also, as much as it may suck, you have to consider "potential". Mcgrady has the potential to be one of the greats, and that's why he'll sell more now, but less when his talent is realized, even if he is great. You also have to consider the fact that T-Mac cards (and other current NBA stars) will book higher now because there is so much more movement on their cards just b/c they are newer.

    mcgrady has the potential to do what? He has back spasms at age 22 ....how is that potential? Mcgrady has potential to be better than magic johnson? C-mon now who are you kidding? Magic made his name from day 1- mcgrady is just trying to make his name. Don't put your faith in someone who doesn't even have faith in himself.


    Mcgrady= Nobody will win the title with shaq in the league!

    Jordan= I beat shaq

    hakeem= I swept shaq aswell.

    magic and byron scott after the lakers 3peat= us 80's lakers could of beat this team in 6!
