GTG 1855-O Half And Post a Coin

Would love to see what you guys grade this SLH I picked up from my LCS the other day. I was browsing for more additions for my proof sets and came across it. I definitely think the hits on the obverse and the nicks in the knees pull this one down a bit. It comes with some wonderful toning so I thought that was a nice touch.

Since I’ve spent so much time researching and obsessing over early proof coinage for the last year I thought this was a little different direction for me. So in addition to a GTG, please post a coin that maybe you weren’t looking for at the time/didn’t fit one of your sets but now you’re glad you got it. Thanks!

P.S. Sorry for the terrible photos. If you have any coin photography tips (within the limitations of an iPhone) they would be greatly appreciated.

XF details due to the drapery corrosion. It is a pretty coin though!

Nice pics with a cell phone. I’ll guess same as the year 55.

Here’s a cell pic of a coin that got me going on Kennedys. It came back 65+PL

    +1

I wasn't looking for this coin, or even a Morgan dollar, I bought this off a bid board (yes that long ago) from a local coin shop that now is long closed. I still have this coin and recently sent this and a few other raw coins to Mark Goodman for some proper photos.

Yep, my suspicions coming to life. Didn’t pay straight grade money for it so I’m not too bummed either way. Liked the look and decided it was time to have more raw coins in the collection. Thanks for the input.

Old light cleaning and retoned in an album. XF 45 details. That pitting in the drapery is strange. I’m used to seeing that on early large cents but not on silver.

I picked these up on a whim at a small show from a retired dealer who was selling off some old stock he still had.
