Why would you want to have them graded? Would grading increase their value enough to justify the cost of the grading?

The "errors" you mention look more like minor defects to me. Certainly they are nothing worth any premium.

    All glory is fleeting.

Everything looks like a quality control issue from the mint instead of errors.

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

  • Should I request a refund from the mint then, given that these are quality control issues rather than die errors?

No; the Mint does not issue refunds for such things. If you like them, keep them; if not, you can resell them.

  • I am guessing that these are worth less than what I bought them for then?

I don't know if anyone would buy these, especially if the Morgan dollar has some corrosion on it already.

    From the Mint website:

    Return Policy
If for any reason within 7 days of receiving your product you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you can return the entire product for refund. Shipping charges will not be refunded for all returns.

I really don't believe they could be corroded already. Much of what some people think are defects on the coin is often on the capsules, or perhaps debris on the coin.

Some of the spots on the Morgan look like milk spots or maybe someone sneezed on it.

In any case, if you are within the return window by all means file for a return. Then you can either re-order or maybe just buy slabbed examples.

Luckily the ones I received were within my personal tolerances, but I know what it's like to receive clearly subpar coins. You'll never be truly happy with them.

Based on the reflections, a lot of what you circled is just dust on the capsule. Get a can of air and blow it off.

    I see NO corrosion.

If this is dust on the capsule, its on the inside of the capsule.

I haven't opened the capsule yet.

What are the green flakes on the Peace dollar?

I have not opened up the capsules yet.

I will open them and see if its on the coin or on the capsule.

If its comes right off then I will probably keep it. If the white spots are chips and the green spots corrosion, then I will probably send it back to the mint for a refund.

I am not sure how I would feel about having a silver proof coin that someone sneezed on before putting it in the capsule.

The capsules can be opened easily. Take one side off carefully, use an air can and carefully blow the coin and the inside of the capsule, put it back together and do the other side. Look at the coin when the capsule is off to see what it is really like.

Then if you still don't like it, return it and pay the shipping. If you want perfection, or closer to it, pay $120+ and buy a graded 70.

Do Not use a chemical compressed air can, use this instead......

Good point to include. Some of the canned air chemicals can discolor a proof coin if held too close.

Could well be. The Mint doesn't blow them off. Look at the reflection. Spots on the coin don't reflect themselves

Lint or fibers. A lot of capsules had pink threads in them.

Hoping the quality of the reverse proof sets is good

Consider yourself lucky. This is what mine looked like.

I was too lazy to return it but probably should have.

    Collector, occasional seller

  • I had several proofs (Morgan and Peace) with dust inside the capsule. Also green fibers bits. Most dust was on the capsule, and anything that wasn't came off easily.

My morgan came with a cracked OGP and was covered in black lint I sent it back.

I’d never use that. Look at the green and blue 💩 blowing out of the nozzle.
