NGC has added Photovision photos to its cert verification feature

Sorry if this has been discussed, I did a search but did not find any threads on this subject. I did a cert verification yesterday and noticed that for that coin the Photovision photos are showing. It looks like this was added by NGC back in June but this was the first time I had heard of it or seen it. A bit late but still a nice upgrade to the NGC cert verification.

About time, hopefully that is standard practice moving forward.

They mentioned it on Instagram and had an announcement on their website back in June. It is nice that they listened and added this fairly obvious enhancement to the cert page.

Agree, although it still needs some work as the lower photos seem somewhat blurry.

I guess not every coin will get that. I just verified three coins. All of them don’t have the photovision photo.
They are not blurry when you look at the expanded versions:

They really needed to have done this from the beginning, but I applaud them for doing it now 👍

Agreed. Whoever was in charge of marketing or decision making when NGC failed to link Photovision to the cert verification really set the company back in my opinion. Their photography greatly improved over the years. For the life of me, I cannot understand why it took so long to come to common sense

While I do not know the specifics of this decision, unlike PCGS NGC would only take these high res photos if the submitter paid for the service. So I would guess that there is a very small number of coins with these photovision photos available to link to the cert verification tool. In fact, when I received these photos from my submission, I was told I had a limited time to download the photos before they would be deleted from the NGC system. That was a few years ago (these are photovision not the newer photovision plus photos) so it would seem that NGC did not actually delete the photos from their system.

@IkesT — maybe this is off topic, but that’s a really attractive 64!
Not that it really matters, however, the 1885 is actually my coin.![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

Neat, unfortunately only one of my NGC coins has photovision pics: https://ngccoin.com/certlookup/2037658-002/64/
I like the NGC photos. I know that mine looks like the actual coin in hand. Truviews often look great, but nothing like what the coin looks like in hand.

Thanks! The lines on the obverse limit the grade, but the luster is off the charts.
I've been finding it especially useful for coins listed by sellers who take really crappy photos. Some of the NGC photos aren't that great but a lot of the time they are better than those on dealer sites and on ebay.

Agree, it's about a 50/50 shot with my truview coins.

It’s certainly a nice looking coin, but your comment was still quite hyperbolic.
