So here is an even deeper question.... let's say you sent an error coin in for instance a 30% clipped planchet. You didnt pay the error fee. The coin is real but the error isn't...... then what happens? Just put in a damaged holder?

If you paid or didn’t pay the error fee and the error is not real, it should come back in a details slab.
Thank you.
High praise, coming from you.
I have no idea what these are worth and/or sell for.
I just equate what it is on the coolness scale and then what it is worth to me.
If the price aligns with that 'logic' it's a go for me.
Is this one of those counterfeits from Romania (or Bulgaria) that Fred has extensively talked about? It looks exactly like those double struck coins from copied dies.
@braddick I wonder why there are no TruViews associated with this coin? It is Gold Shield so there should be. Also the coin does not appear to be RB. That being said my 1854 clipped Large Cent is in a standard Gold Shield because I wanted to use a voucher and the error is clear enough not to need a description.

Yep you get a standard holder/grade most of the time. On occasion someone at PCGS might reach out to the submitter, but I doubt very often.
My Collection of Old Holders

Two profiles and two dates, what's not to like.
This is a 10 on a 10 point scale.

And almost two mint marks!

Only one date but who doesn't like "Headbutting Lincoln" ?
As far as mistakes go, that is a cool one!

Perhaps i am being skeptical but something looks a bit off with the PCGS label…the font looks wrong?

The font is too thin. Looks fishy to me.
