bad deal for the Hawks.. Spree is old.. has a bad attitude.. + the Hawks can't use him, they have Dermarr Johnson, and if they trade Terry they lose the best upcoming point guard in the league.. just my thoughts
That trade would literally SUCK! Spree isn't THAT old but he's a lot older than Jason Terry. I think Spree is around 33 and Terry is like 25! Would be a terrible trade. Jason Terry has a huge future ahead of him with the Hawks because the Hawks are getting a lot better. Not that they have added Dickau in the back with Terry, and Theo Ratliff will be back 100% and Crawford is good coming off the bench...he'll be healthy...so, that trade wouldn't be any good in my opinion.
I can't see anyway the Knicks would end up with Andre Miller...and if they do, the Cavs are fools, because the Clips have much more to offer. What are the Knicks going to give up? Sprewell? Kurt Thomas? Their entire roster is scrubs and one dimensional guys!
if the hawks trade terry, we will all know why the hawks never win.
spree is in his prime, terry has future. and tery is already better than spree right now! stupid trade for the hawks.
if layden pulls this off, he's my vote for gm of the yr and he would actually do something right!
taker, isnt terry a sg now? anyhow, i dont see this trade working out for both teams because terry is a sg same w/ houston and spree is a g/f same as dermarr.
I think the Hawks are under a lot of pressure to win now, they promised season ticket holders partial refunds if they don't make the playoffs this year.
Terry is not a better player than Spree right now. No question about it. However, there is no doubt whatsoever that he is the more valuable commodity right now because he's younger. On the other hand, he's demonstrated that he can't play the point, and he's a very small shooting guard to be starting alongside (also short) PG Dan Dickau.
spreewell is one of the most overrated players in the league. this guy can't even shoot, he bricks almost everytime.
have you seen terry play uw? he's is a way better shooter than spree and can knock it down from anywhere on the court. ask derrick, he lives in atlanta and watches the games..
Terry may be a good player, but where do you play him? He doesn't have the skill for PG in the NBA, and he's a very small SG. That's where his value drops, he isn't a "traditional" NBA player.
he can play pg. thats what he played in college and thats what he played when he first came into the league. he started to play sg because i forgot who was injured and that hawks placed him at the 2 and guess what? he was more effective at the 2. bottom line, he's just a "guard" that can play either positions.
spree is not that tall either. he's 6'5 the height of a natural sg but he plays swingman in the nba. ok, lets look at the stats. ..
spree PPG 19.4 RPG 3.7 APG 3.9 .404 from the field .360 from downtown 2.75 TO
terry PPG 19.3 RPG 3.5 APG 5.7 .430 from the field .387 from downtown 2.32 TO
both players score the same per game. wow. they both rebound the same and spree is taller by 3 inches! terry gets 2 more assists than spree terry shoots better from the field and from downtown and latrell avgs. more turnovers.
It's not all about stats...see if you can dig up what opposing shooting guards averaged against both teams while Sprewell and Terry were on the floor. The best defense is discouraging a player from even taking the shot...Terry just encourages taller players to back him down.
yeah..iknow steve..thats just what i remembered from the top of my head..
how about this one?
steals per game.. terry = 1.85
spree = 1.16
ur right uw, its not always about stats, a better player can get determined by a players bk smarts and instincts but guess what? spree doesnt have that. he's not a smart player. u see him taking bad shots everywhere.
I just think you will never see Terry starting for a winning team...he doesnt have the skills to play the point, and he'd get abused at shooting guard. Look at the majority of winning teams (minus Phill, for obvious reasons)...they don't get by with these 'novelty' 6'-6'2" shooting guards.

what if the hawks get spree? hmm..couple yrs of potential playoff runs and he's a retired man and then the hawks will start losing again?
if u keep terry, terry is young and has future and is already a better player than spree.

and so ur saying that same thing about wagner too? because wagner is too slow to catch up w/ the nba pg's and too short to guard nba sg's.
