How do you normally ship coins?

Carrier? Type of mail (express, priority, first class, overnight)? Manilla folder, flip, cardboard around the coins?

I packaged a couple coins, sent them in a flat rate priority bubble mailer with $200 of insurance and it was $15 bucks! I did something wrong...

I usually ship them First Class which is now Ground Advantage. I'll put them in a bubble mailer along with some cardboard to protect / disguise them and off they go. If I am shipping priority I use a small flat rate box which is $8.10. My choice of FC or Priority is really based on the value of the coin. HTH...

I have private insurance, so I don't have to worry about that per package. Outside of a weight reason, I just ship based on what my insurance requires and what is cheapest. First Class when I can, Priority or Express with a signature when the value gets up there and I have to. Usually I just ship in a padded mailer; if I'm sending many coins I'll usually pad them, put them in a small box, and then put that in a Priority Flat Rate padded mailer.

Always depends on the price of the coin(s).
    Under $20 I use Ebay's under a buck program.
Under $200 I use a mailer envelope with bubble wrap to 3/4".
If it's over $200 or over 3/4" inch thick I use Priority.
If it's over $1,000 I use a box in a box and Priority.
    Under $1,000 I self insure.
Over $1,000 I insure unless bullion and then I never insure that.
Scrap gold gets tripled packaged to disguise the contents.
If It's a PCGS slab with a radio chip I first cover the slab in tinfoil.

Seems every time something requires my signature it just gets put in the mailbox if i'm not home.

I guess i should've went first class. I thought Priority is what people normally send me, but now that i think back, it's usually first class.

Answer depends on what it is.

I never insure packages of $200. I rarely insure packages under $500. The cost of the insurance is far more than the likelihood of loss. And at $200? You get $100 of insurance for free so you end up paying $3+ for $100 in insurance.

Priority is also usually a waste. Some people are paranoid about time in the system. But I only have roughly 1 problem per 1000 shipments. Less than that if talking about domestic mail.

-Half dollar or smaller and under $50, goes in a stamped envelope reinforced with chipboard/cardstock
-Larger than a half dollar or smaller than 6 certified coins goes in a Ground Advantage bubble mailer or cardboard mailer.
-More than 6 certified coins goes in a box

I'll use priority when the weight or value gets high.

I primarily pack my coins with self-adhesive corrugated wrap/safe T mailers. It costs a little more but I think it's the gold standard for shipping coins.

Insurance is expensive. I normally self insure, as my sales are usually under $250.

If it's a new, or low feedback eBay User, I'll make an exception to this rule.

In the 20+ years I've sold on eBay, I've had one package lost, about a decade ago.

Under $20 raw goes in the ebay standard envelope unless I sell from my website where I charge for shipping.
Under $500 usually goes in a safe t mailer inside a bubble mailer. Or if oversize in a small box.
Over $500 usually goes in the above safe t mailer inside bubble mailer inside priorty small box.
I very rarely sell anything over $1000, but if I do I will either do priority or priority express.
Signature option when required by my insurance, or ebay/paypal.

On the rare occasion I ship a coin or two, it’s always a small flat rate priority mail box. Slab goes in an intercept shield holder and then plenty of packing paper. I’ve never had a coin arrive damaged.
Insurance on anything over $500 with signature confirmation.
