1982 Topps Traded Ripken psa 10 manipulation??

So this card has shot to 10k almost overnight it seems. It feels like a market manipulation where a buyer or group of buyers is buying these up and pumping the price. It may be happening with the Donruss in a 10 as well as they have gone to about 2k now. It feels strange…… any thoughts of what is going on?

Well...we could investigate the buyers and sellers profiles to see if there is a web of activity relating them. Sometimes you can find breadcrumbs in the feedback of either seller or buyer as well as the feedback of the seller or buyer.

Not an RC or an XRC!

What if it is market manipulation? Guys buying them up are likely going to spend the rest of their lives trying to dump them off.

If you think that's happening, and you're watching, you should keep track of the cert numbers and see where they pop up.

Dude has a regular 1982 Topps RC. I don't see why so many people get all revved up over this card.

When the Henderson rookie took off a few years ago I kept hearing all the speculation that this card would be next. It has to be more rare than the Henderson, right?

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,239 ✭✭✭✭✭

It is more rare than the 80 henderson.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

The fleer is much harder to come by than the Topps Traded in PSA 10 and psa 9

    1982 fleer
    psa 9 2836
    psa 10 307

    1982 TT
    psa 9 4217
    psa 10 406

and more TT have been graded overall also. 15,500 to 12,750

Kind of reminds me of when 4SC dumped a large number of Ripken TT into the market in early 2012. They must have opened multiple Topps Traded set cases to get this many high grades in one sub. They were selling the 10's for $1399.99. I was tracking resales by cert for a while and nobody was able to get that price on resale. Times certainly have changed. As CardGeek mentioned it will be interesting to see how the resale on these recent purchases goes.

That seems like a pretty high 10 rate.

You don't get 61 PSA 10's everytime you submit? Shocking, just shocking. LOL!!

I looked up recent sales on vcp and at least all the ebay sales have been purchased by the same individual. I cant imagine those sales are legit.

They are going to get Cal to sign them and have 10's auto's on them. Would be guess or Cal is doing it himself.

I'm tempted to list mine for $9500 to see if it sells, and if it does, repurchase when it drops back down to $5K

Best way to tell if legit.

Dude has a regular 1982 Topps RC. I don't see why so many people get all revved up over this card.

Could be because it is his first Topps solo card, without sharing it with the 2 nobodys along side him, AND it is of the same rookie year. It's just more appealing and some prefer it. Same with '81 Rock Raines for example.
Different than, say, '63 Stargell or Rose RC, where their first solo card is the following year.

I wish I had a 10, but only a couple 8s and a 9. I did pick up 40 of the sets at auction a long time ago that are FASC so I hope they climb to the same price as the 80 Henderson. B)

the fleer psa 9 sells for $75, the TT sells for $500. 1400 TT more exist, that's alot.

the fleer psa 10 sells for $2,200 the TT sells for $9000. 100 more TT.

neither one of these makes sense. the fleer card is a true rookie for the set of the year voted on back in the day. i used to get a monthly card newspaper, i can't remember the name of it because im old, but 1982 fleer was voted to be the best looking set.
