    Thanks for the clarification on the NO S Proof dime WindyCity and MFeld. The mystery still remains : "Why no S ?
    And the thread serves its purpose , exposing mysteries more than uncovering them.
    And it's way nicer having mystery over drama, friends.

    We don't know what kind of psychedelic drugs @emeraldATV is on, or if they're using any at all, but we can be sure that they have a VERY wild imagination. :)

    Will the majority of collectors even acknowledge what they don't know?

    @MrEureka said:
    What is the process used by the Philadelphia Mint in the 19th century to gild patterns, and how can you definitively determine if a piece was gilded at the Mint or later, privately?

    is this a set up question?

    Having acquired a few Gilt pattern pieces, I found little to no information addressing your question. I tried doing a search on the ANA archival site and Newman's portal, with no luck. Heck, I had even thought of poking at Saul and yourself if you knew of some reference to read. I have several of Roger Burdette books but did not recall seeing a topic of Gilt coins.

    I did locate this post from 2013 but not sure this fully answers the thought but it did cover a wide range of topics on Gilt that I found of interest. Several of these those forum members are still posting.

    In fact there were several posts (including some by you) on the subject years ago

    maybe wroth another dedicate discussion?

    A question for the ages:

    Is it "Harshe"?

    Or is it "Harsche"?
