I know 1981's have gray and cream color. I have these 1980 OPC's with white backs versus the regular blue backs. Was this a variation like the 1981's?

The 1981's I think was a paper stock color thing... In your case it just looks like the Blue plate in the printing press was missed or ran out of ink and they didn't it catch it for some sheets, which passed to cutting and pack stuffing... was probably meant to be blue plate first, then black plate second.
I really like the way those look. Got any Garvey?
Never seen 1980 opc white backs before. They have 1980 superstar white backs.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!

Sounds interesting. I don't know much about it. The way the variations become variation is very hit and miss. 1977 topps basketball has gray and green backs, a difference much like the 1980 above, but only the public recognizes them as variations. PSA does not. SCD apparently does not either.
1985 OPC hockey has gray backs similar to the Topps of the same year which are much more rare. I have the Lemieux graded a PSA 7. Not much info on these unfortunately
The Superstar white back cards were a different card stock than the grey backs, and distributed differently and separately.
The OP's cards appear to be the same card stock, just with a printing error that's missing the blue ink.

Can you post your Lemieux or any other ‘85 OPC hockey gray back please? I like that set a lot but don’t know if I’ve ever seen a gray back.
Two Lemieux’s for comparison PSA 7 and 8. The 7 is darker back than the 8. Pic not great, but seeing in hand you can see the difference.
Thanks for posting! I’ll have to look through my ‘85s but I think I would have noticed if I had one. They really do look like Topps backs.
