1965 Quarter DDO

Just looking through some quarters an notice the WE in IN GOD WE TRUST appears to have doubling on the right. Is it possible that only one or two letters would be noticeable?

It's possible to have a doubled die that is only noticeable on a few letters, but yours is not a doubled die (just minor mechanical doubling).

Agree with the above, just Mechanical Doubling, a worthless type of doubling.

    (I know it's fruitless but...)

    The process should be this:

    1) identify dates/mm with known DDs and note the markers/diagnostics

    2) scrutinize only those dates/mm for DDs.

Random searches for random DDs are a futile effort.

    Just my opinion....

Agree. Seems like a lot of people don't understand that for some reason.

  • Thank you all for the comments. Still learning here. @JBK, that was the only reason I asked was because I was looking at specific dates with known errors. I know it's not the exact description of the error, this quarter just
looked different from the other 1965s that I had. Now I've learned what mechanical doubling vs a DD lol.

If that's what you're doing then your doing fine and you're on the right track.

Most newer collectors do not do what you're doing, so you are a big step ahead of them.

Keep on searching and asking questions. :)

Research and then searching is the way to do it.

    Good luck with your search.

Do you think the coin in the book looks anything like the coin you posted? The coin needs to match the photo in the book to be an actual double die variety.

    nope

  • @djm did you read the comment that you commented on? Or are you a picture book kinda guy? lol. I'll say it again, "I know it's not the exact description of the error, this quarter just looked different from the other 1965s that I had". The reason I posted the photo of the book was to show that I was actually looking for specific dates with specific errors. Anyways, I'm past it, and learned from it.
