Unreasonable to think auction proceeds payment mailed to the address on consignment form?

edwardjulioedwardjulio Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭✭✭

Auction company received and auctioned the coins. Proceeds payment was mailed to "the address they had on file". I would expect the proceeds to be mailed to the consignor address entered on the consignment form. Is my expectation unreasonable?

I would always call or email in advance to ensure they have the current and correct address.

Your expectation is not unreasonable, however it seems unlikely to me (if we are talking in general here) that any major consignment would not be discussed and those things worked out with whatever auction house a person was working with.

Hard for me to believe this was not a discussion with a seller before an item sold. Any other details or are we just talking “in general”?

Actually, I find it rather surprising that the consignor would not check to make sure the auction house has the correct information.

Most auction houses place consignments into the "account" of the individual. After that point, it's in the system and the address and information in the system is the one they would use.

Now, if someone entering noticed the discrepancy, you would hope they would check. But I'm not sure I, as the consignor, would leave it up to a possible minimum wage data entry clerk to find and fix discrepancies.

From what I understand in your post I think I’ve had something similar occur a while back. I submitted some coins for auction, the proceeds payment ended up being sent to a prior address of mine. I don’t recall if I had updated my address in my profile or not. Reached out to auction house to confirm address on file and a new check was cut and sent the next day. A one off-

I consigned a few items to HA recently and specifically put a different address on the consignment form than the address I have on my account, so that the proceeds didn’t go to the address they had on file. My thinking was that they would update the address they had on file to the one I put on the consignment form.

Of course, the check was not sent to the address I put on the consignment form. It took several additional weeks to get my payment. A little frustrating in the moment, but all good now.

Lesson learned. I think they should remove those fields from the consignment form so that folks don’t waste their time writing it in, only to be ignored.
