Should I crack this or cross it?

This ANACS 1848 N-42 was a great find for the price I paid. It is R5+ and is problem free. I have 4 new vouchers the first week of September. I believe the coin is better than F12...F15 for sure...even VF20 on a good day.
I don't want to split the order and pay shipping and handling twice.
I have 3 XF details bust quarters that I could make and order with....or I can look for other raw Large Cents....or could look for other crack out candidates.
Note..I have never cracked out a coin before...a bit risky for a novice.
Help me out ....do you think the 1848 is better than F12? What's the best course of action? I appreciate the feedback!

Everyone is different but at least for me I don’t cross anything unless the value of the coin will increase significantly. If it was my coin and I wanted it in a PCGS holder I would crack it out. Worst case scenario if the coin doesn’t straight grade is sending it back to ANACS or trying again at PCGS. This can get costly so there has to be a big enough financial upside in value.
There are lots of “how to crack a coin out” threads. I use a vice and tighten it until the holder cracks. I wrap the slab with a towel so the coin won’t fall to the floor.
With respect to the “how to crack”, I find those ANACS slabs to be especially tough! I use a saw.
Leave it as is. The coin looks properly graded to me and it already has the Newcomb number noted. Do Newcomb number specialist collectors really care about what holder the coin is in? Why spend more money playing the crackout game?
Unless you really want or need it in a PCGS holder, I would leave it as is.
You’re looking at $50+ all in, and I don’t think it will upgrade.
This from a guy with large cents that got Details grades at BOTH services….so I’m kind of an expert at wasting money on grading fees!
I put them in my mill vise and I machine off the edges of the slab…over kill but effective!
I use a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel and cut the slab open. Staying far away from the actual coin. If you think it will upgrade then I would go with crackout.

Why would you consider crossing xf details bust quarters? Is there a price difference for details coins in different plastic?
