1921 S Buffalo with lamination question

VetterVetter Posts: 876 ✭✭✭✭✭

Graded XF45 lamination by NGC. Lamination on the obv with a nice strike and a great horn. How much do you think the lamination impacts the value? Would you rather have this one or one with no problem but a lousy strike?

For me, the positive attributes you've described outweigh the lamination. I fact, I'll go so far as to say the lamination adds character to the nickel and doesn't distract IMHO.

That is a coin that demands a premium for the strike alone. Forget the lamination. It doesn't affect the grade and actually gives the coin some character.

Finding a 1921-S with a strike like your coin is really reaching the upper limits of quality for the date and mint.

If it wasn't slabbed, I would have thought the coin was embossed.

    Great find.

For me it would be a deal breaker. Too bad because that's a nice original coin with an exceptional strike.

Poor alloy mix and laminations were common for 1921 and other early Buffs, I agree that the strike on this coin is Exceptional you don't find many this well struck it would be a keeper in my eyes.

Laminations are defects, not errors. Defects are problems. Avoid problem coins.
