I’ve never seen this type of damage before. I’m almost certain it’s post mint damage but I just need some more input to finalize my suspicions. Thanks!

I was gonna guess grill marks
i have a morgan half with similar damage the mint has a machine called a waffler that is used to take coins out of circulation of course that was long before your coin or mine but they are similar and people told me someone ran my coin thru a machine long ago .

the photo of the reverse actually shows it best - notice how it is out of round where the damage is.
