Penny reverse help needed.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the reverse of the penny in the photo and what caused the extra lettering around America.

Thank you.

You didn't provide a date but I'm assuming it's a zinc cent. Either plating issues from strike or die deterioration is my guess.

Please provide a full photo along with a close up when making inquiries.

What you have looks like a ridge ring caused by Die Deterioration. It is impossible in the
striking process to have extra letters around the rim.

Sorry about that. Thank you for the information. Here are the photos.

Very nice pictures. On the Obverse, you also have a ridge ring starting to form
and you have a small die crack at the corner of the memorial on the reverse.

Thank you for your response. I just started coin roll hunting with my two teenage sons and we're learning as we go.

Struck from a well-worn die starting to crack. Late die state and a minor die crack error.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.
  • Is the last pillar on the right being doubled?

No, that is part of the design. It is part of the second row of pillars

  • Is this considered a cud rim or misaligned die? Or both?

Is this considered a cud rim or misaligned die? Or both
A cud involves the rim and is caused by a broken die.
It does have a slight misalignment but is within spec.
Unless the lettering runs off the edge, there is no premium.
