Whats a fair price to give somebody for a 1/2 oz gold 2016 W Walking Liberty in OGP?

Mint issue price was $865.00, so I think 10% back of spot would be fair.

You wouldn't give him more than he paid 7 years ago? It could be worth more or less 7 years later.

Maybe $600 or a tad bit more? I sold a PCGS 70 for $700 not long ago.

When did gold drop to $1200 per ounce?

How can you buy on from the mint? They sold out over 6 years ago.

Wow @DeplorableDan I am seeing $1600 for MS70 coins. You gave a deal.

I’ll take as many as you have at that price ;)

Are you sure that was the $1/2?

Greysheet is $1171. CPG is $1400.

@ djm good point so probably more like $950 coin.

    Greysheet is $1171.

Clearly, something has been lost in translation. I know that @DeplorableDan knows a 1/2 oz. gold coin is worth a lot more than $600.

Maybe a typo. Could have meant $1600

I don't see anything close to that on ebay. $1200 to $1400 OGP and $1700 or $1800 for 70s.

@jmlanzaf it was just online not on ebay. I've never bought anything from ebay. I dont know who had it because I wouldn't pay that much. The point is the prices are all over the place and I just want to know what a fair price is.

I wouldn't turn one down at $1000, but I'm not looking to buy.

Whoops, I had a brain fart. My prices were for the 1/4 oz standing liberty.

For the 1/2 ounce, i've seen them trade around $1250 fairly recently.

Agree, 10% back of spot is too cheap. You can sell these all day for $1200. If I had a shop, I wouldn't pay a walk in any less than $1000 for a nice one in ogp.

    Mr. Feld:

Be honest now, what would the owner of this coin NET if he were to consign the coin to Heritage to auction?

The OP has to make a profit on the coin as well, he is taking all the risk.

I’d advise the owner to sell the coin privately, rather than consign it, as he should net more that way.
And not everyone who buys a coin is looking to flip it for a quick profit.

Theres not really any risk $1000, one could easily net $1200-1250 on the secondary market without putting it in an auction.

If he gets full hammer, he'd likely net $1200 at Heritage as I'd expect it to sell for around $1400 all-in, But, as Mark pointed out, this is not an item that should generally be consigned to ANY auction house.

My local dealer had all 3 in 70, the prices last year were $350, $750 and $1400 (cash). I got the Mercury Dime and wanted the standing liberty, but I was short. I would expect a little more now. eBay tends to be 10-15% more than cash price.
