My take on this subject is "The AM must show a different spacing being closer than the other letters.
Like a static shock distance.
I came across this bugger, Keep in mind the bluish hue was generated by the lighting and not of the coin.

Wide AM.
The placement of the FG on the reverse makes it easy to identify the coin as a Wide AM.

I always go by the FG, if it is close to the memorial, it is a WAM, if it is away, it is a CAM.
This way your not trying to determine the spacing between the A and M.
Looks wide.
