A few more "almost threw away garage finds"

This is follow-up from earlier post of mine, but here are two nice cards (out of 15) that our friends saved from the dumpster several years ago when cleaning out their parents house. They didn't know what they had until the topic of baseball cards randomly came up in conversation and she let me take a peek. They were happy to learn that they are worth more than zero and had previously been stored in an envelope in a dingy garage.

Mabe they were in the dumpster for a reason. Reprints??????

Perhaps, but I don't think so given some other verification steps I've taken and the back story of these cards. They were not pulled from a "random dumpster". They were in a persons house for about 50 years until they were removed about 5 years ago. My friend's sibling wanted to throw them away (with a bunch of other stuff), but my friend didn't allow that to happen. But you probably don't believe that story, and that's fine since there a lot of scammers out there. I suspect they are legitimate, but they haven't been professionally authenticated so you may be right. I guess time (and PSA) will tell.

  • I’m not a baseball card collector. I’m just wondering why the horizontal tilt doesn’t match the vertical tilt?

I'm not entirely sure that that means, but this is a photograph I took with my phone and it was at a slight angle to prevent glare so maybe that's what you are referring to.

I’d need to see the back but the Wagner is far too grainy to be authentic IMO.

There were reprints 50 years ago. It’s amazing how long 50 years ago sounds but that’s only the 70’s and companies were producing entire sets of Carmel cards and T206’s. 50 years ago isn’t so long ago when it comes to baseball cards

Congrats! A 2.5 on a 113 year old card is awesome. How did Cy grade?

    Reprint. ;)

Kiss me once, shame on you.

  • Hmm...why would an envelope have an original and reprint together of different players from the same set. The reprint was more aged looking.
Did a PSA vintage grader accidentally make a mistake?

If not...very cool that you saved one hell of a nice card. Congratulations!

Did I miss something? Nathaniel isn't the OP. I hope that Cy Young graded.

No, you cleared up the confusion I just created. Thanks for the quick catch. I should read more carefully.

Congratulations, that's a really nice result.

Most recent sale I'm seeing of a Blue one was a PSA 2 for 3k in December 2020 if you haven't already checked.

There are not any more recent sales than that one listed on ebay's Terapeak search for graded ones. 4SC is actively asking 10k for a SGC 1.5 that is in really rough shape compared to yours.

I would consign with 4SC then. Ask the same and yours will go first.

Did you buy these from your friend or just get them graded so they could sell them? Either way, cool on your for stepping in and saving these two cards. Beautiful.

Impressed with the results but also in the speed in which your service was completed. If you don't mind my asking, how long start to finish and at what level?
