Odd Chinese charm or amulet - any ideas of age and type??

I came across this in a large lot of Chinese cash coins. I assume it isn't ancient, but it does have scripts similar to that found on some of the spade money on one side. Any one have ideas about its origin?

This item could be a privately made "coin".

Apparently there was a fad a long time ago of minting "Coins from Atlantis" and other legendary places and leaving them for people to find.
