It's up to you, but I would have waited for a better coin. This variety isn't that scarce unless you bought it because of the price. I used to own an NGC VG-8 but sold it in 2016.

No, a coin can't lose 19% of its weight through normal circulation wear.

Without seeing the edge my first thought is that it's genuine. I'd grade it AG3.

So is it fake in your opinion?

I don’t know the type or what weight controls the mint had in place. Maybe they made them with a wider weight variance. Maybe one of those weights is incorrect. But if they all start out at 3.38g they cannot lose 20% of their weight through circulation wear. Even losing 10% would leave you with a slick.

The only coins I know of that lose more than that are ancients where acid rain or similar causes the metal inside the coin (such as copper in an alloy) to leach out, or coins that have been machined flat so someone can etch a design on the surface.

Under 3 grams is quite normal for a worn 1R (though 2.74 may be stretching it a bit). Check old Sedwick auctions, they always list the weight on their raw coins. Regardless of the weight, if you can cancel the order I would. Not necessarily due to authenticity concerns, but I don't think the coin is worth $500.

Just a filler till I get better. I would like to have a better one but they don't show up much so this will have to do will then. Does is look authentic in your opinion?

    I sent you a PM.

Not sure where you are looking but I've seen it often enough. But then, your definition of "often" might be noticeably different than mine. I've seen it on Calico or one of the other Spanish auctions in the past more than a few times.

After I replied to your post, I looked again at the price. I consider $500 quite steep for this coin. I think the 1733 1R has gone up quite a lot since I used to pay more attention, but still think you can do much better than this one for the price or somewhat more.

You can check your own coins. Do you have any silver coins that weigh 25% less than they should?

Here’s an opinion - next time you buy a coin, do the research first… and that doesn’t mean searching on yahoo. I find it to be in bad taste to handle a transaction in this manner. If I sold coins on eBay, I would block you.

Well this was a predictable outcome for a PDC thread....

And yet, he gets to add 15 posts to his count by attempting to debate himself? dat ain't right!

Got my answer no point just letting this topic going all over the place. Just to have some post things because they have judgements no thanks. Delete and move on.

Well you shouldn't be able to continue posting to a thread you've deleted either.
