Grading Opinions - 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr.

I saw a similar post and wanted get some opinions on what grade you guys think it could receive if I were to have it graded. The only flaw that I can find is a section of the top of the card on the back there is visibility of fraying like it wasn't cut perfectly. The centering is near perfect all around except on the back where the TB alignment is slightly off. Side to side is easy to see, the corners are strong, and I can't find any visual flaws under a flashlight.

I really didn't know anything about baseball card grading until today and this thing has been in a box sitting in the attic the last 25 years until I got curious and decided to look through the sports memorabilia I've collected since childhood. I only took it out of its case for these pictures.

Any input is appreciated.

The front is oc TB as you can see the top border does not match the sides..... also, the right side (front) is a little rough as well... I say 8 at best. Maybe they surprise you with an 8.5

It's probably lower. Theres no way you can grade a card based on these pictures. It's also bent or wavy, not sitting flat on the scanner.

It is hard to grade from the pictures. I have a grade run of these from a 3 to a 10. Scans of them almost look identical. Surface issues you can’t see in scans knock them down quite often.

Looks like the back bottom right corner is a bit soft, hologram is a bit low. Not knowing any surface issues, an 8.

  • I recently opened a brand new box of the UD set. Pulled out the Griffey and sent it in..... They graded it an 8 - I was disappointed.

    I thought 8.

That stinks! How much did you pay for the set?

Make sure you also check the RJ and Smoltz rookies.

I thought the wavy was my bad eye sight playing tricks on me.

The color's are still holding strong. Mainly the yellow, gold and green. The bat with it's grain's detailed seems on point.
I can't say if the backround is correct of the bio block. If to replicate a parchment look then it's cool looking to me.
If not, that look could be a few issues. Also in the block , Are there some very light impressions of scribble ?
My thought on the front "I think" the halftone could have popped better to my liking.
I'm guessing the file was not digital.
Nice card if you ask me.

I purchased it years ago when it was released. Thanks for the notes on who else to look for.

Why does the hologram look green?
