RIP - Lowell Weicker, best known as a member of the Senate Watergate Committee, died today. Here is the autograph I got from him years ago.

I might have gotten an authentic autograph from him years ago, maybe on a photo.
I had mostly forgotten about him after he left the senate, but I wish I had tried to get him TTM post-retirement.
I met Lowell Weicker on the campaign trail in November of 1988- I saw Joe Lieberman the following day on the campaign trail in Hartford. What a classic Senate match up. Weicker lost in a razor thin margin mainly because a small group of conservative Republicans lead by William F Buckley endorsed Lieberman. This historic match really changed so much of history as a defeated Weicker made a comeback and was elected Governor as an Independent leader of the so-called Connecticut Party. This movement likely never would have happened had he lost to Lieberman... Lieberman had a distinguished career in the Senate and was Gore's VP in 2000. There were rumors that McCain wanted him in 2008 as his VP which did note materialize.
He was an independent thinker worthy of our respect.
