1797 Liberty Cap Half Cent C-2 - major type upgrade!

After the horror movie Large Cent I posted last I think you deserve to see an actually nice coin.

The Liberty Cap Half Cent is, for whatever reason, captivating to me. I would call it one of my favorite US type coins. I think I spent a lot of time looking at it in the Red Book when I was 10 or so.

I was at EAC Portland this weekend and was looking for a 1794 half cent. If you’ve ever tried looking for these, you’d know they’re not easy to find. The ones I could find weren’t in my price range at all!

Eventually I saw this 1797 that, at $325, I had to leave the show with. My other 1/2c is a 1797, but it’s a corroded metal detected C-1. This is a C-2, a generally much higher production quality and overall nicer looking variety.

    Really very pleasing example and I think you paid a fair price.

    1/2 cents are truly magical. I like this one a lot. Well done!

    @Omegaraptor
    Very nice specimen and almost a twin to mine, except you have much nicer photo’s.
    The asymmetric strike in this variety is likely due to misaligned dies where one die is slightly canted, relative to the other.

    That is quite an attractive example - congratulations!
    I have read this variety is considered the most aesthetically pleasing among the 1797 1/2C varieties.
    I have a similar example in my collection.

    Nice example! I've been watching a C3a version of this date. I believe it's an R4?? but its twice what you spent and doesn't have nearly the details of your piece... well done!!
