Leaf sent me a trade offer - Bryce for Trevor - What should I do?

ndleondleo Posts: 4,136 ✭✭✭✭✭

Here's the deal - I have 8 Bryce Young Redemptions at Leaf. There are rumors that Fanatics has Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Will Levis to exclusives (mainly to stick it to Panini, as the rumor goes). Brian Gray still thinks he will get the Young autos but he offered a 1x1 swap of Bryce Young for Trevor Lawrence Rookie Autos.

Leaf Redemptions are a little different than Panini or Topps. You get the player on the redemption but the type and serial # is random.

Should I trade Bryce for Trevor?

Take the Trevor's and run! He is about to break out in Year 3. Plus he is not 5'10".

To me it’s an easy decision to take Lawrence. Or trade 5 or 6 of them for Lawrence and keep a couple Young.

OK, it looks like Trevor in a landslide. I will go with the board vote and trade all 8 Young Redemptions for the Trevors. I'll post the cards when I get them, I think they will be from Metal and Trinity, two of Leaf's more popular products.

While it seems like an obvious choice, I did have some hesitation. Because of the Fanatics exclusive, there maybe a shortage of Bryce Young Rookie Auto cards if Panini cannot get Bryce in 2023 products. If he does live up to hype, they could skyrocket. If Leaf can't get anymore BY autos, that leaves Pro Set Power, College Memories, and Ultimate Draft as the only Leaf products with BY autos. Combined with Topps college rookie autos, that is a tight supply

That being said, I think going big with Trevor is the right move. The 2021 Leaf product was more expensive than the 2022 product, so the opportunity cost is much better.

Why not do what several of us suggested and trade 6 of the 8 young autos? I’m confused why you’re treating this like an all or nothing situation.

I don't think Leaf will get the Young signatures. Even though Brian Gray thinks he will get them, I'm not so sure. If I pass on the Trevor's now, I may not have a chance later. Leaf may end up offering another player and after my Panini experiences, I'm taking the money and run.

Indirectly, Fanatics has already altered by hobby habits.

I was listening to Sports Card Nonsense and the guest on the show had an NIL deal with Will Levis and he basically confirmed that Fanatics signed Levis, Bryce Young, and CJ Stroud to exclusives. Fanatics actually bought the guy out since he had an NIL with Will Levis.

They are not sure what this means for Panini, but the 2023 Chronicles Draft Picks FB has a Bryce Young sticker auto on the sell sheet. Let's see if they are live or redemption (which means never).

If those three don't sign for Panini on future products, will demand for 2023 Panini FB drop? The hosts mentioned that the NFLPA basic agreement may compel those guys to sign for Panini but maybe it's an all or nothing deal, which means no top QB rookie autos in 2023 boxes.

Seems like Panini is doing some house cleaning. I got a replacement the other day for what should be a live redemption. It was Justin Crawford, which was an improvement on my redemption so I'm not complaining, but I found it weird like they were tying up all loose ends.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I was leaning that way when I got the offer. My only hesitation was with the Fanatics exclusive, I was concerned that if Bryce Young took off, his autos would be tough to get and spike the demand. His performance this year proved that concern overblown.

A bird in the hand is worth more. At least with Lawrence you know he has what it takes. With Bryce it's still unclear.

Leaf finally did get the Bryce Young signatures I had redemptions for. The cards look nice but they looked nicer at the start of the season.

When I saw this pic, I knew I made the right call.

I know Leaf isn't popular on the board but I ordered this card from their site and it just came in. Being from Detroit, Thanksgiving and football have been a long tradition. I'm not a Michigan fan but I loved the look of the card.

Nice pickup. I’m from Michigan too and like this kid’s work ethic.

I added a few J.J. Bowman University autos to my collection. He will likely return for his senior year and then be a top three QB prospect in the 2025 draft. Betting he will be successful at the next level.

I'm a Notre Dame fan but I cheer for UM against everyone else since all my friends are UM fanatics. I hope he comes back for his senior year as well. He needs to show off his arm a little more and I think he will be the top QB.

Very nice card. I like him a lot.

  • Leaf actually has some great designs but then they balance it out with their game-used card ones. :)

Leaf and Wild Card get flack for so called “pajama card designs” but their designs are worlds ahead of Sage - the true pajama cards - and better than most Panini and Topps football products.
