EAC Auction Last Night

Anyone else here watch/participate?
Prices generally seemed strong - at least most of those I was interested in went for more than I was willing to pay.
As it was a little late for east coasters, I did not see how the middle/late date large cents fared...

Speaking of overpriced copper:

Wow
The consigner should run to GC to pick up his check!
That's insane

Yeah I'm not getting it. There were MS67RD and MS67+RD the past two weeks that don't pull in that kind money.

Dang!
Glad I’m not into Lincoln’s!😂
I looked at the pics of this FS-104 and I can't see any doubling at all.
Any one have a close up?
Confused here

I learned something new, not surprising; always learning.![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Doubling on the FS-104 variety is quite subtle upon researching. Certainly not like the double die I've been looking for.
These are the best zoom pics I can do. You can just make out the outline of the doubling. It's so subtle it's almost unremarkable. Worth $19K? I guess to someone it was or is.

EAC = Extremely Alluring Copper?![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I didn't watch it, but I'm interested to see what was sold.
Are the realized prices posted anywhere? Was it on GreatCollections?
Well, it could be great to find and sell them!
Back to the OP's post...
I watched and won this add to my odd collection:
That is beyond insane money for that 1972 DDO, FD-104. To pay that kind of money for DDOs that are not naked eye visible is extremely foolish in my opinion.
Check out some of my 1794 Large Cents on www.coingallery.org
As far as the EAC Auction, there were two really nice 1794 Large cents, a S-19B in EF40, R-4, Head of 93, and a S-20 in VF35, R-5, Head of 93. They sold for around 40K and 35K respectively.

IMO, collectors have "slept on" early coppers for years. I think the market has finally taken notice and we are seeing younger collectors buying these and prices are going up.
Hmmmm, altered date perhaps?![:o :o](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/open_mouth.png)
We drove down to Portland to check out the EAC Convention, but didn't stay for the auction. Overwhelming amount of nice copper!

Thanks Tramp, but I still don't see anything.

I'm sure not going to spend $19k on a coin I need a microscope to see the doubling.
What are these people thinking??
can you spell HYPE

@Zoins EAC = Early American Coppers
The auction was only available to members, either in person or via icollector.com
@burfle23 Looking forward to reading your analysis of that coin![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@jedm Yes it was described as an altered date in the auction description
@BigMoose Thanks the report on the big money coins!

This supposed sale of the 1972 FS#104 is just more proof that GC is primarily focused on and tremendously talented at one major thing - attracting and exploiting the numismatically ignorant pop report/label chasers. This is one of the advantages of publishing crummy imagery - it keeps the focus on the labels and (very misleading) statistics instead of the coin.
Just goes to show that education is the key!
Thanks everyone for the reports. It sounds like early copper is on the rise... I've seen strong prices for the coins I've been bidding on (and losing) for over the last year...
