1835 Mint Set

brianc1959brianc1959 Posts: 350 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is another "mini-collection" that I put together while assembling my main type set. I chose 1835 mostly because the two gold coins are obtainable in mint state without going completely overboard. There are a couple of coins I'd like to upgrade someday, but for now it feels pretty good to have a completed set.

Half dime, dime and the two gold coins are especially nice. Well done!

Nice set! As a capped bust half dime fan, it's gratifying to see that you chose the biggest year for major varieties - the combos of large and small dates and 5c denominations (lg/lg, lg/sm, sm/lg, sm/sm) gives you something to have fun with! The lg/lg coin in particular (which is an LM-7, a rarity 3 marriage) is stunning!

Thanks all for kind comments. I have a few more mint sets to complete while adding to my type set, some of which (e.g. 1796) will require a dramatic expansion of my business!

The multiple major varieties for cents and half dimes is definitely an appealing aspect of 1835. The lg/lg 5c is the last coin I added to the set, and I'm very happy with it.

Congrats, the early "Mint Sets" can be very challenging. I have 1800 and 1801 mint sets, a collector can complete a set of many denominations within the design types for a year without having to do a full type set.

Very nice set! Really tough to put together pre-1840 mint sets. Congratulations.
