Removing Scratches from Capital Holder?

pmh1nicpmh1nic Posts: 3,294 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a Capital holder that I purchased used. It has some surface scratches I’d like to remove. They are not deep but enough of them to obscure viewing the coins. What is a good product and method for removing them. Thanks in advance for the replies.

There's tons of info here on this. Put your "subject line" in the search tool here.

There's some type of special sauce that can get scratches off of PCGS holders, but you might want to test it first before trying it on Capital.

Type collector, mainly into Seated. -formerly Ownerofawheatiehorde. Good BST transactions with: mirabela, OKCC, MICHAELDIXON, Gerard

It seems from a search car scratch and swirl removes should do the trick.

I have success using Meguiars PlastX and lots of elbow grease. Good luck. Peace Roy

You may not be aware - but capitol holders have an alignment mark on one edge. Each plastic sheet has an angled mark that will match up when they are properly stacked in order. This will make your edges and your screw holes mate up perfectly.

Capital plastics coin holders are plexiglass. Go online to see how to polish and remove scratches from plexiglass. NGC , PCGS and ANACS coin slabs are not plexiglass but are acrylic.

For both coin holders and TPG holders, pretty much anything made of plastic, the NOVUS polishes 1, 2 and 3 will work magic for 99% of problems. Only a truly deep gouge, or crack would be something no polish can remedy. There are various youtube videos that can show you before and after.

I did not know this; I have several that came in a pile with a bag of screws. Maybe I'll have better luck putting them back together.

I’m out of town until Tuesday. As soon as I get back I’ll take a picture of it.

Meguiar's makes a scratch remover specifically for plexiglass so I think it should work.
