2009 nickels and dimes - update

On a whim I decided to check eBay just now to see what these are selling for. I think I have one roll of uncirculated 2009-D nickels.

Un-opened (uncirculated) bank-wrapped rolls, typical eBay selling price:

2009-P nickels: $100 to $110.
2009-D nickels: $60 to $70.
2009-P dimes: $45 to $65.
2009-D dimes: $20 to $25.

2009 mint sets (original US Mint packaging): $20 to $30.

I don't know if that is higher or lower than a few years ago. But I do think the 2009 mint sets were somewhat undervalued at one point, since they contain the four 2009 P & D nickels and dimes, as well as the eight 2009 P & D uncirculated Lincoln Cents (which are solid bronze in the mint sets but zinc-plated-copper for general circulation).

I also remember reading that most of the circulating 2009 nickels and dimes went to Puerto Rico. I see one eBay seller from Puerto Rico that is cashing-in by selling CIRCULATED rolls of 2009 nickels and dimes, and making a decent profit (assuming they are acquiring the coins out of circulation at face value).

Interesting. I haven't checked but I would have thought the same thing about the 2009 Lincoln cent series. I rarely see them in circulation around these parts.

I seem to recall that the 2009 cents were massively hoarded. Most are probably still out there wait for the original owner/hoarder to die. Expect a flood of them on the market in about 30-40 years.

I have many bank rolls of 2009 Lincolns. Don't even know how many, 20 or so.

2009 is the only year I actually submitted Jefferson's for grading for my sets. Bought a roll of each. Much less than these numbers. All other years, the bulk submissions get me what I need for less than I can do it myself.

That's an increase in roll prices from what I remember. I sold a pair of P & D rolls for $75 together just a couple of years ago.

Some people have the Midas touch. I can't seem to get a nickel for a dime, on eBay.

Thanks so much for posting about this, I had no idea. I have two rolls of each in String and Son wrappers I stashed away that will be going on Ebay this weekend!

I used to search my pocket change for 2009 nickels and found no more than 5 of them. For a couple of months in 2009 or 2010 I was getting 2009-D dimes from freshly-opened rolls at the cafeteria at work and accumulated about a roll of them. I haven't found any 2009 nickels or dimes in recent years.

Just arrived. $25. It’s along the same topic. The pennies are special.
