Turning that fast in a newer holder is a little surprising

The cert data recognizes it as the same coin from both sales.

Is there an option while submitting to keep an old cert number? I thought for every new grading event, a new cert number would be used.

@jmlanzaf it was probably stored improperly.

Possibly. But it would have to be pretty extreme. The old holders weren't as air tight as the new holders. It used to happen all the time. It is much less common these days. I'm not arguing that it didn't happen. I just find it surprising.

@jmlanzaf It could have been intentionally trying to tone the coin gone wrong also. The toning on the 2022 pic doesn't look natural. The coin looked great beforehand.

I think Legend played with the lighting in 2014.

Notice the spot of toning over the M is visible in both images, but the die polish marks are not...

BTW, FWIW, all of the 1861 Proof 3cs were struck on a single day...

And also given the huge number of Medalic Alignment coins known, I've always assumed they screwed up the setup for an entire day.

I am more interested in the nice price appreciation ... holder upgrade while still holding onto the CAC seal. Nice pick up by one of the owners.

Trimes were 25% copper alloys and are not very stable. With that said, while chemically reactive that is still a lot of change for such a short period of time. Gassed in the slab and CAC stickered to boot?

Edited: I was wrong about composition. The early silver times were 75% silver and 25% copper, the later ones reverted to the 90% silver alloy. This is even more reason to doubt the coin.

Legend usually uses True Views. Look at the Legend slab shots though... the coin has changed markedly. Unlike PCGS and CAC, I'm not liking the blue and purple toning which does not look natural to me. Since the toning was present for the True View post upgrade, it was there when PCGS had it. CAC also lists the new grades meaning it okayed it too.

@HeatherBoyd - Can someone pull the old True Views and confirm? I know sometimes multiple images are taken even though they don't make it to the final True View image. This is something administration may want to look at.
