The trueview is quite nice for the 1741, so maybe I’m being a little harsh. The strike still sucks. Also, the 36 is a top pop, the 41 is third in line. Not that it means much, but the 36 is probably a tougher coin. I’d have to look it up to verify.
Let me know which you buy, I might be interested in the other one😜

The reason I asked this question is because I own the AU58 and started bidding on the MS62 to upgrade. Having placed early bids on it I gave it a rest to let another hold the high bid. I realize that I would rather have a well struck coin in slightly circulated condition with full detail than a weakly struck mint state colorful one.
Unfortunately, the scoring of coins in registry sets doesn't see it that way.
Second coin has more eye appeal based on these photos. As a type collector, I would generally prefer it over the first. I can’t comment on the relative rarity of each, but that could factor in and potentially change my mind.

I have my eye on that one too. Different KM number though. Mushy devices but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush especially with so few coming to market.

Second one, it’s needle sharp, early issue, beautifully toned and quite attractive.
The other one is meh for the grade, not a good strike, probably cleaned and not very nicely retoned. The luster looks muted. And what’s the red dot?
Admittedly you can’t tell the luster of either one really.
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
2nd one for me as well that red area on the 1st gets to my OCD.
... And what’s the red dot?
I think the red dot is an artifact of the image by Heritage as it is not on the TrueView

The MS62 is scheduled for sale on June 22 should you wish to bid.

The (second) AU58 is more attractive than the MS62
technical grade is off, go with eye-appeal
number two for me
Here is a 63 and I still like your 58

Buy the coin, not the holder. You made the right call imo.
