Can somebody please explain to me eBay's new "Auto-Pay" fandango?

Tried to make somebody a respectable offer on a $250+ coin and eBay would not process the offer unless I authorized something called "Auto Pay."
Are they crazy over there?

I believe if you make an offer that the seller accepts, you automatically win and your payment is processed.
All you get is a notice that you've won.

I will go back and re-read it. It sounded as though I were authorizing Auto-Pay on everything.
When you list an item for BIN (buy it now), you can specify that the buyer must pay immediately. I believe this carries over to offers on those listings, although in the case of an offer, the credit card is not charged unless you win. I have made offers like this before that were declined so I know this is the case.
It's not "auto pay" it's more 'pay now.'

I thought that was the case also. After I signed up I won regular auctions and still had to pay manually. The auto pay (for me) was for the best offers that were excepted.
Better offer accepted, mean you the buyer enter in the bilateral transaction. Been accept your offer, you are charge of the amount. I do not see nothing wrong on this. For the company this it is the best way to push out delay payments and dispute.

Well, I accepted it so that I could make my offer, which was accepted, and they did immediately charge my paypal account without the old verification system
Then I received an email which I read as meaning that everything I purchase will automatically be charged to my paypal account, without the request for verification that I have always used.
Will wait to see if I win a bid tonight to see if it is automatically charged.
Pretty sure it simply means that if the seller accepts your offer, THAT purchase will be automatically processed. It should not affect other offers or bids.

It's eBay, so I can't be sure, but can't you just turn it off again?
This immediate payment system is for making offers. When creating a listing a seller has the choice whether or not to require immediate payment.
When a seller chooses this option, a buyer must enter in payment info when making an offer. If accepted the buyer’s payment method is charged immediately. See pics for an example

Auto pay only on offers. It is a pain in the "thing". Sometimes it just says that you can do it, but does not allow you to place an offer. I've used it several times successfully and several times without being able to make an offer. I see no point in it, unless many are making offers then not accepting responsibility for the sale when offer is accepted. I have no problem with making an offer when no "Make Offer" is listed. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I like using the feature for items I have listed for sale. I've had a few too many "buyers" make offers that I accept, that they never pay for afterward.
Well, last night I got an offer from a seller of a discount on a coin, and I accepted the offer, and I had to check out using the old system which I prefer, so apparently the Auto-Pay is only for when I make an offer, so all is good.
Back when I was working coin shows for a dealer I did once have some clown ask "Would you take $xxxx on that," and I said yes, and he said "OK, I'll let you know if I want it later in the show" and he wandered off, never to return.
You are basically prepping the payment if the seller accepts the offer.![:o :o](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/open_mouth.png)
NOTE:
Pay attention to where the money is coming out of... I had one the other day that pulled straight from my bank account and not from credit card through PayPal.
