Tracking and EBay Authenticity Check

I recently purchased a card on eBay, my first one subject to the authenticity check. I thought I was clear on how it would work, but I have had some issues with tracking.

When the item was first marked shipped, the tracking showed as pre-shipment, and remained that way for five days. I figured the seller just hadn’t gotten around to bringing it to the PO. When I finally logged into eBay to contact him, I saw that in fact the card had already passed authentication, and PSA had provided a new tracking number. Now that tracking has stayed at pre-shipment for four days.

What the heck is going on?! Anyone else experience anything like this?

It is true that two (2) tracking numbers will be provided: the first from the seller to PSA and the second from PSA (via Fed Ex) to the buyer. The first carrier depends on the seller, the second from PSA is always Fed Ex. My recent purchase (1963 Willie Stargell Rookie PSA-8.5 ) went smoothly and arrived to me faster than the estimated delivery date. PSA had it about a day as well as the seller for a day or two. Authentication by PSA took a day.

@mintonlypls That’s doubly strange because the second tracking number I was provided was USPS.

Did you receive a fedex tracking number from eBay for the return trip?

Any shipment of mine from PSA has always been via Fed Ex. Maybe if a given value threshold is exceeded, then PSA uses Fed Ex.

When I had the 1986 Michael Jordan bumped to a PSA-10…delivery would have been via an armored truck. However…I immediately consigned the card to Memory Lane who picked up the card at PSA since the two businesses are 5-10 minutes apart.

The Fed Ex tracking number from PSA showed up on order details…yes on eBay.

@mintonlypls Well both tracking numbers were provided to me…just neither one has ever updated from pre-shipment status.

I just looked on the Stargell RC purchase …and the entire shipping process is under track package on EBay (both USPS and Fed Ex). Stargell RC arrives today…

Sorry to be a pain, but if you enter the USPS tracking number the seller provided for the trip to PSA into USPS tracking system, does it show all of the tracking from the seller to PSA? Because under eBay track package it does reflect that the card was authenticated and is on its way to me. Just neither of the actual tracking numbers have ever updated.

The entire shipping process from seller to PSA then PSA to buyer is listed on eBay. On the first leg of the trip for authentication…sellers tracking number (in my case w/Stargell RC) a USPS tracking number was provided on eBay. After authentication by PSA…PSA tracking number replaces first tracking number…but the entire listing of where the package has been shows up on eBay.:from seller to PSA, then PSA to buyer.

Thanks for the info. I imagine my package will show up eventually, I just don’t understand why the tracking is not updating for either leg.

It should have been updated. Since authentication process began…I have made a number of purchases on eBay w/ entire leg of trip from seller to buyer with a “connecting” trip to PSA visible to me w/associated tracking numbers depending on where the package is in the entire complex process.

The eBay track package function is not always accurate. Use the sellers tracking number on the USPS website for better accuracy. If you have a PO Box PSA has to use USPS for shipment.

I have typed both shipping numbers into usps tracking site…both still say pre-shipment

all of the ones that I have shipped have tracked regularly through the USPS system. I have seen many issues where the signature or delivery scan at PSA is not happening and I receive a notice from eBay that my item was authenticated but until then the tracking was fine. All of my packages out of PSA in the authentication process were sent USPS and they tracked normal too, it's usually only a day max after the authentication notice for it to get moving. The system is much quicker than I envisioned it was going to be. Overall it usually ads 5-7 days to the normal shipping process for me

That is troubling too because the authentication was completed on Friday and the tracking is still in pre-shipment 🤷‍♂️

    @beachbumcollecting

That is what I expected. I can’t imagine how the card could have gotten all the way to PSA and been authenticated without being scanned once….let alone the same thing appearing to be happening a second time on the way back from PSA. 🤷‍♂️

I am sure it will be fine but that does sound like it's creating unnecessary stress. Here is the last one that I had already go through completion after the authentication

I guess it’s possible that the tracking sticker came off the package somehow on the way to PSA. I guess I’ll give it until the end of the week before I panic.

One other question: must any inquiries about the return shipment from PSA be made through the eBay seller? Or Is there anyway to contact PSA directly about the shipment?

Tracking finally updated this morning and looks like item will arrive today. That’s a lot of missed scans!
