Hi, im new here, first post/question. The penny in question is a 1978 no mint in horrible condition but has a pretty red appearance obverse and only weighs 2.68 g. It's much thinner then normal. Not quite as large as a penny but not as small as a dime. Does anyone know more about these?
I hope my pics load. TIA

Welcome to the forum!
Your coin has bad environmental damage.
The reverse rim is weak or missing, it may be from the environmental damage or it may have been sanded down.
Either way that would account for the loss of weight.
Spend it while it's still worth a penny.
Welcome
As mentioned, just a badly corroded cent, possibly been buried.
It will only get worse. Get rid of it while you can.
Thank you for your replies. Im not a real collector but old/odd money has always fascinated me. I've learned so much more just from other posts on this forum. If I only knew then what I know now...... Happy hunting everyone! Thanks again
