eBay listing: Henning 1944 Nickel

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,119 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is one of the best examples of this contemporary bogus Bust half I've seen (no pin scratches and/or damage). Hard smooth
surfaces. Prices seem to jump around on eBay yet I think this one is 25% better than average at a 25% discount.

Now listed on eBay:
RARE 1944 NO Mint Mark, HENNING Nickel. Free Shipping

@davewesen No mint mark on the 1944 nickel is the 1st indication that it is a Henning nickel. The weight should be around 5.3 grams or a little more. On this one I don't see the loop on the R and i don't see a die crack between the U and the s going down to the Top of the dome on Monticello. Henning used a couple of different reverse dies, so the main indicator is the no mint mark above monticello.

The reason I asked is because there are other counterfeits that are not Henning and there are also greased filled dies.

    Pat cancelled auction.

I accidentally mailed this coin to another buyer (along with the coin they actually purchased). I am hoping beyond hope that buyer writes me back and after paying for the return postage- mails me back my coin. I've narrowed it down but can't really accuse anyone as it is my fault.
If that doesn't happen I am simply out and yes- I am bummed out over my error.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Accidents do happen, hopefully the buyer will return it to you .🙏

    Right.
It requires pure honesty on the part of the receiver. I have faith though it
might work out okay and hope my naiveté isn't showing.

I'm always looking for a Henning. It amazes me how so many Ebay sellers think just because there is no mint mark (39/46/47/53) that it has gotta be a Henning. They also don't want to openly list the weight either. Oh well, that is Ebay. On a good note, your looked like the real deal and I did bid on it too. Hope it comes home to PAPA.

so they are supposed to be heavier and larger in diameter, should I start weighing my circulated 39.46, 47 and 53 nickels?

You'd probably notice the poor quality first, and some of those dates have the looped R on some coins. But sure, throw them on a scale. I keep all my old nickels so I can scrutinize those dates at some point.
