Details on PCGS Details

Hi, when a coin in a PCGS holder is listed as damaged or repaired yet the affliction is not obvious to the naked eye despite very good photos, does PCGS disclose any notes or comments they might have made internally when the grading was made? I guess this question can also apply to borderline cases, like between AU50 and AU53, where there might be notes made by the grader.

Also, if PCGS did the repair, surely they would have notes, no?

If such notes exist, could I simply call PCGS with the registry # and find out if there are any archived notes ?

Thank you!

I don't think PCGS repairs coins, do they?

"does PCGS disclose any notes or comments they might have made internally when the grading was made?"

    No

"Also, if PCGS did the repair, surely they would have notes, no?"

PCGS doesn't repair coins, they will conserve them.

If you have a "Details" coin PCGS uses a numbering system to give you a general idea of the problem such as
    Altered Surfaces, Cleaned, Holed etc.

    This.

Link to the "PCGS Restoration" page.
Link to the "PCGS Grading Standards". You want the "no grades" tab.
