eBay issue when using a Vault service
So I have been having my eBay purchases sent to my PWCC vault account. Unfortunately, I purchased an unopened box of cards and the seller sent t-shirts instead of the box. It turns out that the eBay terms of service state that if "The item was collected by a third party on behalf of the buyer" it is not covered by the eBay buyer protection service. That said, even if the transaction had been covered, I did not find out within the 3 day window from when the item was delivered which would have voided the eBay buyer guarantee.
I am going to dispute the charge with my credit card but just a heads up that shipping to a vault (PWCC, Goldin, etc) directly from an eBay purchase leaves you without any recourse from eBay if the seller ships something that isn't the actual item you purchased.
I will note, I have saved more in taxes by sending purchases to my vault account than I lost in this particular transaction so I am ahead overall monetarily (even if my credit card dispute isn't resolved in my favor). However, outside of items that have to pass the eBay authenticity guarantee, you are taking a risk having them sent directly to a vault account. I know that going forward, I will be changing where I get items shipped for unopened.

Sorry this happened to you, but this is just another example of why not to use the vault.

As a collector, I'd never send my cards to the PWCC vault. I just don't see the appeal of having someone else hold my cards for me just to avoid paying sales tax.

I'm not even sure, depending on the state, if it's legal. The "appeal", such as it is, is really only there for flippers, or people who don't understand the law. I assume, if you eventually accept delivery, that sales tax is levied at that point.
