    @mbothner Welcome to TCG grading!!!

    And thanks for sharing your results!! I always enjoy seeing what someone else has going on!

    Anytime you get PSA 10’s back you’ve done something right!!!

    One of the things (beyond the value of the cards) is understanding how your grading varies. If you separate the Pokémon cards by grade and place them face down… you should be able to see similar coloration all around the edges and corners. The higher the grade, the less white you should see. A Pokemon PSA 9 will show maybe 1 small white spec, but the rest is pretty consistently blue. A PSA 8 generally shows 2 or more white spots, and consistently worse white coloration as the grades go down. ( This is just in general, because the front of the card is even more important!!! But I use this as a guide… and it’s pretty accurate… since you said these are your kids cards, any wear will certainly lower the grades. This quick analysis should also work for the yugioh cards but the white is harder to see with the brown and white edges.)

    Looking at the cards in this way should help you to understand how they were graded… which ultimately affects the value.

    I don’t know much about later year Pokemon values so I’ll leave that to someone with more knowledge than me.

    It seemed that many of the yugioh cards were not 1st edition cards nor were they ultra rare, or super rare foils. These would be the highest value cards in the sets you submitted. And You would needs PSA 10s or PSA 9s to have value beyond the cost of grading. Since you had mostly non 1st edition cards, You would need PSA 10’s to have some chance of value ( and the one you did get was not particularly rare in the ioc set. Maybe it would be worth $10-$15 to the right buyer).

    The Tournament Player cards TP4, TP5 cards don’t come in 1st edition so psa 9’s may have a market.

    And there are DB1 collectors that might have interest in your cars where they might pay for a blue-eyes or a dark magician, but the higher the grade the better… Psa 7’s or Psa 8’s and up may be ok!!

    Let me know if any of this was helpful and if looking at the price guides as was suggested above helps answer your questions.

    Regardless of value… I’m guessing you have preserved some of you child’s tcg memories!!

    The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one.
    Live long, and prosper.

    Thanks for the info. That was very interesting. I mostly collect baseball and Marvel cards so these cards are all new to me. I just thought it would be fun to get my kids old cards graded.

    @mbothner

    I think it’s great to preserve the memories!!! When I was asked what my favorite card was, I pointed to the 1st card my son won playing in a yugioh tournament as a kid!!! I eventually had it graded (a PSA 8) And it means the world to me.

    I saw you had plenty of posts but didn’t know if your background was in cards. So I added some helpful information for a first timer.

    I enjoyed your post… and thanks for sharing!!
