1934-D Washington Quarter Heavy Motto D/D?

So I have a 1934 D Heavy Motto Washington Quarter. I have seen the mintmark on these referred to as "Small D". So is there such a thing as a "Regular D" in a Medium Motto and "Small D" in the Heavy Motto. I have always wondered why they refer to it as a "Small D" No other MM in this series is referred to as a "Small D".
So I was looking at my Heavy Motto and it looks like there is a regular D under the Small D. Here is a close up of the coin. Sorry for the poor quality, but in taking the photo through the plastic is creates a haze on the image. Anyway here it is.
I would like some opinions on the MM. I would resubmit to our host and get a True View so I can see the coin without the plastic, but it has a CAC sticker and I would hate to lose it.
Anyway let me know your thoughts on this.
Thanks
