76/77 pop nice results

Hey all.

I've been quiet for a little while on here, as I hadn't sent anything in for grading. But I have a couple orders with 30 or so cards for my 76 and 77 sets at PSA and the first one popped yesterday, and it may be my best overall results ever. No big dollar cards, but the hit rate is much more in line with what I had seen in my past submissions. I had been a little disappointed in what I felt was inconsistent grading over the last few years (or maybe my eyes were going bad) and this pop seems to prove my eyes are doing OK. Anyway, I wanted to share as to not be the guy who only "complains" about bad results and let everyone know some good results are coming out too.

Side note. I knew none of the HOFers were 10's but worth submitting if I thought they were 8's. Most I had as 8's hoping for 9's. Any common I was looking for a 10, and I couldn't find any flaws in them. So, I missed something on the Concepcion, but otherwise everything else came back as expected with a nice Gem rate.

I like to sub 787-79 and those are great grades. Congratulations.

I've had terrible experiences with the 76s. It's generally so bad these days with cards in the 70s that I've almost completely stopped trying.

Nice! Bet they will look great slabbed! I recently consigned all my nicest raw mid-late 70’s stars to GMCARDS so I’ve looked at a lot of them lately.

Awesome results. I'm about to start a NM+ raw '76 set. Do you have any raw dupes in that condition you want to unload?

Congrats, Jeff! 76 and 77 are two of my favorite sets from the 70s. Definitely worth subbing at least a few more if you have others in that condition!

I will check what I have. But in general, I have bought sets/packs/singles over the years and keep combining them to make a "premier" set. And I sell off my doubles. I'm just getting around to sending in the cards for grading. I may have a handful of dupes but that would be it. The rest are in a binder that as Tim suggests I'm going to need to go through and double check. They are all really nice, but of course what I sent in as far as commons are concerned were the best of the best.

I have a 25 card order there of all 76's that were really sharp. Hoping for similar results.

I didn't even know that they gave out 10's on vintage any more.

    Those cards are gorgeous.

Side trivia, without googling it, does anyone know Bruce Kimm's claim to fame?

The Bird’s (nearly) exclusive catcher during his short but magical career. Being from Detroit I did remember that (but only after I googled it ;)

This is correct, Kimm was Mark Fidrych's personal catcher (i.e. whenever The Bird pitched, Kimm caught). I don't think Kimm caught much other than that.
