No specials for April?

https://www.psacard.com/specials

It seems odd the last special ended and no specials currently exist now for members?

Probably started to fall behind a bit and decided to use April to catch up. Just a guess.

This is outrageous. PSA can't call it a "Monthly Special" unless they have monthly special. EACH. MONTH.
So my PSA membership "benefit" is the same as someone who doesn't pay $99?

  • firstbase23firstbase23 Posts: 457 ✭✭✭

No, you can access the cheapest tier of grading that non members can't access.

Would be nice to have some sort of special every month. Even if it was a limited special. Maybe pick a particular year or player (not Jordan, that almost ruined them).

Doesn't this require 40 cards minimally with 20 cards modern and 20 vintage for $19 each?
$780 and shipping on a large declared value.

I thought the cheapest tier per card is $25 and requires no membership.

When submitting it was called a quarterly special. I may have made a false assumption that quarterly specials are aligned to calendar quarters (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, etc.). It's quite possible quarterly specials can kick off at any month. There are other websites offering deals to submit to PSA that provide a lot of business. Golden is probably providing a steady stream of grading demand. Controlling turnaround time while refining their process seems to have been priorities and I think they've been doing their homework. I look forward to the next deal and hope most of my potential submissions will qualify.

Actually it is 20 vintage or 20 modern. I believe they went back to Monthly specials last July, but they haven't had one every month.

Are you sure it's OR instead of AND?

I know the submission tool will allow you to select either but I thought the special required both.

You have to have a membership to submit cards for grading. You do not have to have a membership to submit autographs for authentication.

This is not correct. You don't need a membership to submit cards for grading. The membership is only good for "monthly" specials and if you enjoy the Loop credit (lol). : :p

Yes, there's no membership required to submit at the $25 level. I don't believe there is any minimum at this level either.

With no specials, it's hard to justify a membership at the moment. (insert Loupe joke here)

That's not exactly correct. If you submit one value submission, at $6 savings off the regular $25 for 20 cards, that's $120 savings. so you will already be $21 ahead after the cost of the membership..... If you are never going to use the value bulk level, then yeah, the membership isn't a value, but then you never know what the specials will be. Just sign up when you see a special you like and will cover the $99 cost or are ready for a bulk sub.

Remember the days buying a pack of cards for .50 trying to get a 1.50 card that nobody would ever buy from you.
    Fun times.

Then it shouldn't be called a "Monthly Special". It misleading and false advertising.

As for the $19 bulk for members....that's still a lot higher than the competitors who have $12-15 bulk rates, especially if you're slabbing them for your PC.

    PSA advertises:
    "Members-Only Grading Access
    Value Bulk Service Level
$19/card. The Estimated Turnaround Time is 65 business days, declared value must not exceed $499 per card.
Plus, access to grading specials ONLY available to Collectors Club members."

It's the "PLUS" I was referring to.
And with no major sport card special last month, that's 2 months now with no real added benefit to being a member with sportscards ready to get subbed.
I try to support PSA as much as the next guy, but if you are a paying member, you can't be OK with NO "Monthly Special".

That's like saying a BMW is more expensive that the Honda's being sold down the street.... People are willing to pay more to use PSA. And if you are slabbing for your PC, then why not use the Honda brand??

The specials thing is a little wonky in the sense that even if there was a special, it may not be something that you want to take advantage of, so it would be the equivalent of offering no specials.... So by offering no specials, they are taking away the prospect of you saying the specials suck or are useless!!

I know I could use a throwback special to fill in holes on my AROD player set. A bunch of those cards I can't sub at 19 per. I know they talk about getting back to a price point that makes sense for those types of cards. Here's hoping that it is this year

Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards

I'm still holding out for a better price, CAD dollar + shipping + risk of being assessed duty kills the economics. If there was a decent price on 80s multi sport I have 200 ready to go, but won't be holding my breath, resigned to the fact grading may never make sense for me as a collector again, especially when you consider 7-8 grades sell just was well raw for what I collect as people chase that 9-10 (which they won't get).

Set registry is one reason. Another is, the "BMW brand" grades items the "Honda brand" doesn't. If I upgrade a card in my PC, it's easier to sell a psa card, as others have set registries or brand loyalty. Question is, why are you shilling so hard for psa? And having no specials prevents someone like me from voicing my disappointment? That didn't work. LOL.
If big business offers a program, they need to deliver. Monthly specials implies a special each and every month.

Well, a special has emerged! I guess it won't be too thrilling for anyone without brand new cards though.

  • Guess the backup disappears at $200 a pop.

I use PSA almost exclusively when subbing cards. However, you have your data reversed in your comment. SGC will grade a lot more different sets/items than PSA will, not the other way around. I send pretty much all of my sub'd cards to PSA that both PSA and SGC grade, but I send plenty of items to SGC that PSA still hasn't caught up to speed on, especially when it comes to foreign issue sets from both pre-war and post-war.

Looks like PSA got the message, but they took the easy route, throwing this special together.
Grading brand new cards is easy. They're all 9's and 10's. Quick churn for a quick buck.
They can't complain they're back logged with a special like this.

What "data"? LOL. I never claimed SGC graded more or less different items than PSA.
I was making a point why someone might "have to" use PSA over another company if they wanted their item graded/encapsulated.
Is your "data" showing that SGC will grade 100% of what PSA will grade?
If the answer is NO, (which it is), then your whole (unnecessary) argument goes out the window.
