IMO, this is doing damage to newcollectors by IMO taking advantage of them with the selling hypebullion.
IMO, this is doing damage to the excellentNGCbrand.
I think we heard that.
It might also be expanding their brand into a new market as the traditional market shrinks.
Grading companies can only stay in business by grading moderns, including bullion. That is nothing new. Look at the number of American Eagles they've been grading relative to the total number of coins they grade.

Why not just move along Error? I do remember you as being all excited about error coins that many of us couldn't care less about. Why keep thread crapping on this thread.
Your point has been made. YOU don't like VaultBox. Many of us do as is clearly demonstrated as the presale being sold out and other members positive posts.😎
The total US census for NGC is 35.6 million. Of those, 17.2 million are Eagles and bullion and 1.36 million are modern commems.
But I suspect it's even worse if you look at just 2022 submissions. I don't know an easy way to find the complete 2022 NGC census but they slabbed 600,000 MS Silver American Eagles and an additional 150,000 Proof Silver eagles.
So, you can poo poo the moderns and bullion but if PCGS got 100% of the classic coin market and NGC got 100% of the modern coin market, we'd probably be saying goodbye to PCGS.
YOU started a thread on this subject. I posted some information that had not been referenced yet. Admittedly, not in advance of the pre-sale, but still relevant and on-topic.
What, exactly, was the point of 'dumping' on my post, and laughing at me?
If you did not feel my post was value-added, you could have just ignored it. Just like the advice you have dispensed to other forum members in this very thread (i.e., "why not just ignore and move along", and "why not just move along").

Well, there are other opinions, mine one of them, that do not feel as strongly as you do. While Vault Box is not for me, I think NGC is being creative in their marketing and have designed a product that might pull in new people into the hobby. One could say that local coin shops take advantage of new collectors as well with their buy/sell prices.
Time will tell if the NGC brand is hurt or helped. Ultimately, that will be measured by profits realized not the peanut gallery.

I find it interesting, but not $700 interesting. I could never sell my wife that I was buying a $700 lottery ticket that might ; but probably wouldn’t, pay off.
I am impulsive from time to time, as I was yesterday when I placed a similar size bet on a coin in the Stack’s auction.
The Philadelphia Mint: making coins since 1792. We make money by making money. Now in our 225th year thanks to no competition.
I think the marketplace should try to be consistent.
If we are going to scream about dealers paying less than normal markup for bullion or ave circ Morgans than we should be similarly disgusted with dealers charging well over normal markup on moderns.

I think the term used was "unethical".
What's the total retail value of all coins being sold against the total cost of all boxes? Unless you have those numbers, you are making a fact less assumption.

Here's a fact:
Most buyers will be paying well over retail for modern manufactured collectibles.
Go ahead, put the lipstick on the pig.
Or better yet buy some stock in Ulta, it appears you will buying cosmetics to defend this marketing scheme for the foreseeable future.

Yes, it really should be that simple.
Or we can voice our opinion and not stay silent if we see a scheme that affects hobby integrity.

Sure you can; you can see how much effect your railing has!
I'm sorry, but I can't help chuckling at concerns that this little game somehow is damaging the "integrity" of the hobby. I would bet money (well, were I a gambling man, which I'm not; hence why I have no interest in this little game) that there is precious little overlap between serious coin collectors and the gamblers who want to play that game. And even less than "precious little" chance that that little game will have any appreciable effect, positive or negative, on coin collecting as a hobby.
Wanna rail at things that probably do "affect the hobby integrity"? Try the cable TV channels that sell overpriced shlock coins (or YouTube channels with the "get rich coin collecting" nonsense that misleads people). While you will be just as successful at changing that as you are at changing this little game, at least your target will be worth the negative energy!

That's what it is, in the card world and now the coin world. If you don't want to play, you don't have to.
I will be getting 1 box if the website doesn't' crash. I Have no Graded coins. All my coins are raw or in US Mint packaging. In fact, I have never held a slab in my hands. So, for me it's worth the chance to get something good. If not then oh well, I like a treasure hunt.
Mike
You might want to search eBay and discover that for the cost of a mystery box you can buy some very nice slabbed coins and a snazzy pcgs or ngc box to hold them. Like to take a chance? ( I do). Bid on some auctions and perhaps get yourself a very good deal. Happens to me regularly. And ofcourse, please collect what you like and keep checking out the forum. Lots of smart folks here. Enjoy.

I frankly do not know how it is allowable to call out specific high value coin chance awards.
Anyway you will find people who are compulsive chance takers, young or old.
Bottom line the optics are bad. Hopefully large stakeholders in the market will voice displeasure to the parties involved. It will solve itself in the end.

Hopefully large stakeholders will mind their own business. Why is the coin market a monolith that must behave as one?
There are all kinds of things I don't want to collect that I consider a waste of money. I don't try to get large stakeholders to stop it from happening.
This is not The Coin Market doing something. This is a company supplying a product that some people want.

My friend takes me and my kids to a comic convention each year. Its fun to see all the people dressed up. The kids love it.
There are many mystery boxes there with a few that will have a big prize in it. Alot get bought.
So this idea appeals to many people across different markets. Seems vaultbox found a niche and is running with it.
