1884O Morgan VAM question
![[Deleted User]](https://wc.vanillicon.com/c928a3070142e36e101e8ae66688b50d_100.png)
I am struggling (what else is new) to find the vam number for this Morgan.
I see similar ones but not this one. I don't think I have a discovery vam or anything but I am not able to nail this one down.
So now that I have exhausted all my efforts maybe someone here can help me.
It's part of the enjoyment of the hobby for me but after two hours I throw up the white flag.
I believe it's uncirculated.
It's got a double ear.
O/O
Large die clash on the reverse
Nice clash right at the back of the neck.
I tried to take decent images.
Here it is-

It's a little hard to tell from your photos and a close up of the mint mark would help.
Take a look at Vam 30A and see if it matches up to your coin, it looks kinda close to me.

@ifthevamzarockin close but no cigar. The clash at the back of her neck is much bigger. The point coming off her neck is correct.
Also there is the matter of the rather large die clash on the reverse. It's very large and pronounced. Simular to what you would see on an 1887. I'll take some additional photos after work.
I went through each VAM yesterday and nothing matched up.
Then I went through again because I thought I made a mistake and overlooked something.
I have been wrong before and I will be wrong again.
"I'll take some additional photos after work."
I look forward to your additional photos.
Try to get a better photo of the mint mark and the 1 in the date.
"Also there is the matter of the rather large die clash on the reverse."

I'm going to guess you didn't find the large full coin photo of the reverse at the bottom of the Vam page.
Hint: There is a little arrow above the full coin photo to view the reverse coin image.
Here is the photo from the Vamworld page. Double check the exact placement of the clash on the wreath and also check the placement of the clash off the top of the wing. These clash marks can move slightly depending on die rotation.
"The point coming off her neck is correct."
This clash mark will also change location slightly with rotation of the dies, if yours matches you need to take a closer look at your coin.
"The clash at the back of her neck is much bigger."

That clash can be seen on the full coin photo but it doesn't show quite as well, good chance it's because of photo lighting.

I don't mean to sound rude and I'm trying to help you.
You have overlooked something.
Does the mint mark match and can you see the tripled 1 on your coin?
The date placement and the clashes seem to match up quite well.
@Watchtower "I'll take some additional photos after work."
Did you give up on this coin?
No sir.
I own a business and we were straight out. I just got home after working 14 hours. We are on a pretty serious assignment. I just left the field offices.
I'll take images in about an hour.
Images on the way.
Thank you
@ifthevamzarockin

Okay I finally got to sit down. Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. Thank you for sticking with me and showing me something here.
I think the coin you are showing me is the correct VAM. I didn't look at the full coin. I have a habit of just looking at the cut outs.
The 1 doesn't look tripled to me but you can be the judge of that if you'd like.
Here are some images I took tonight. I also used my microscope.
I have a great loop but that doesn't help us here.
There is also a small die clash at the top of the wreath above the larger die clash on the reverse.
Let me know if I can do more to get to the bottom of this.
I know your correct about the VAM number after looking at the whole image as you suggested.
The only thing I can say is that the clash behind her neck seems to have progressed and is much larger or at least it appears to be.
Yes the 1is likely is tripled. I was looking at it to be tripled sideways not upward. I see it now.
You know your stuff I respect that.
Too bad someone cleaned the heck out of that plate coin, huh?
I have one more im working on now its interesting to me. Different coin but with a dot that looks like a small o mintmark next to the O mintmark.
Thanks for the additional photos.
It still looks like a Vam 30A to me.
@ifthevamzarockin I agree and I thank you for your help.

What's your thoughts on this 1884O?
Different coin.
Just starting to look it up now.
It really does look like a micro o lol.
"the clash behind her neck seems to have progressed and is much larger or at least it appears to be."
Lighting and the angle of the camera can enhance or diminish the way it shows up.
"Yes the 1is likely is tripled. I was looking at it to be tripled sideways not upward."
It may be hard to see the tripling and it may only look doubled on the top of the 1.
"Too bad someone cleaned the heck out of that plate coin, huh?"
The plate coins on Vamworld can vary in condition. Sometimes it's the discovery coin and sometimes a member just adds a photo to a page that doesn't have a full coin photo. The idea is to have a photo for reference no matter the condition. Most coins even in lower grades will show the pick up points.

Feel free to post it when you have time.
@ifthevamzarockin I posted an image of the other coin in this thread. It's just above us. Look for the O mintmark with the other o next to it.
"What's your thoughts on this 1884O?"
"Different coin."
PMD...... Sorry
It is what it is.
How did the dot move farther away from the mint mark, is this 2 different coins?

Is it only me that sees "the dot" as a silly face with its tongue sticking out?
