1992-93 Pinnacle Hockey - question to the hockey card/autograph collectors

Friends

It has been a long time since I have been on the forum and I have rekindled the collecting bug after clearing the basement and finding my album with my 1992-93 Pinnacle hockey album which I believe I put together last century. With 1971 Topps baseball being the last set I put together, it is clear I always dug the black borders. I looked through it and saw I had autographs from Roenick, McSorley, Sergei Nemchinov, and Dale Hunter among a couple others and am now trying to get the whole set signed. I have sent away for my first ever private signings and am learning more about Canadian postal customs requirements than I ever thought I would but am having genuine fun putting this together. And am looking for advice.

My question: In a lot of these cards (LA Kings, Maple Leafs, Rangers etc) players are head to toe in black or dark blue and black ink is a non-starter. On the submission forms I can choose ink color and am curious what others have used. Is red a viable option? I have seen silver and gold and certain photos and am wondering if that is viiable.

Apologies for the newb questions but I am submitting Ray Bourque, Adam Oates, and Brett Hull next week and would like to include the Doug Gilmour but am waiting on figuring out the correct ink choice against the dark uniform before dropping the cash. Any advice would be appreciated. And delighted to be back! Once I remember how to post photos I will get a couple up if anyone interested.

I’d go with a gold or silver Sharpie with that set.

Thanks RedHeart. To confirm, is putting "Silver Sharpie" in the "Pen Color/Type" section of the mail in order form a common request? I ask because thus far every card I have seen is either blue or black ink. And I appreciate the advice.

I don’t know if it’s a common request, I don’t know how these private signings work. Sharpie makes every color under the rainbow so all you can do is request it …unless you want to send your own pen along.

If you are particular about the look, do not leave it to chance. Buy the sharpie you like and send it with the cards. If you are lucky, they may send the marker back with the cards, which would be super cool to have. There is a sharpie 3 pack that has gold, silver, and bronze. They are amazing markers.

I've been a big fan of blue paint pen dark cards lately. You should check and see if the promoters have them first.

If they are glossy cards treat them with baby powder before sending off..
If not most likely the auto will bubble up !

Also, I could probably help you out on some.
I was getting lots of in person hockey back then.
    Send me your want lists.
