July 2, 2001. When I read the topic of the "Great Migration," I thought it was going to refer to the creation of the OFR.
I was not around for scottieo's 1804 dollar and heard only bits of the full story. So, @TomB can you please tell it? Also, wasn't there someone who asked for donations for dentures or was that another chat board?
As per the request of @Mark here are some of the broader ideas from the scottieo threads and some other tidbits of the old software.
In my opinion, scottieo was the original BONGOBONGO except he wasn't a short-term member who disappeared as quickly as he came onto the boards, but instead had the flair of BONGOBONGO and combination of relentlessness and willful ignorance that so many new members have when they post damaged coin, after damaged coin, after damaged coin and then argue with everyone as to why it isn't a major rarity worthy of the Smithsonian. He could be an artist. Scottieo pounded us with his 1804 dollar and the story of its acquisition, which I don't recall now, and how he was going to have it certified and then proceeded to write a long thread about the process of losing it out of his shirt pocket into a freshly poured concrete sidewalk. We all had tears at his misfortune. That might have been the first thread where multiple images were in the thread and I recall he had images of the wet concrete where the coin disappeared, but no images of the coin itself. He did not make it to the new version of the boards, but I do believe he came back briefly as a different name.
We had another member on the boards who went by something like cob (or cobb) and he could be quite insightful and often combative. Again, if I recall correctly, he set up the first fundraiser on the boards for someone who had cancer and we raised a bit of money for the cause likely in 2000 or so. He disappeared numerous times only to resurface with new names, but would send a PM to folks who knew him as the previous name. I haven't heard from him in over a decade. The person who attempted the dentures fundraiser was a different member (whom I will not mention his user name) and he started a thread shortly after our second(?) successful fundraiser to request donations to fix his teeth and/or to buy dentures. The story was quite convoluted and ended up alienating this member from the boards. No funds were sent to the member as far as I know.
As previously mentioned, the boards were really, really quiet back then and Rick Montgomery (then-President of PCGS and later with NGC) would post fairly often on the boards to interact with us and to answer questions. At this time, or just prior to it, PCGS would publish something they called their "Hot 40" (or something similar) where they would list the 40 most common coins graded by PCGS during the prior week and the grades that the coins obtained. It was pretty interesting during those days of limited information sharing. I think PCGS might also have hosted online auctions on the site, as well, but this may also have been even a few years before the boards.
Folks I can recall, or think I can recall, from the old boards include Spooly, Dog97, Askari, braddick, jom, shirohniichan, shylock, kranky, dpoole, dragon, gmarguli, michael, Gilbert and of course scottieo and cob. Some of these folks have been banned, some have unfortunately passed away, others faded away and a few are still with us.

Interestingly, I don't remember being part of the original boards actually so I don't think that is correct (I could be wrong though). I joined here Feb 27, 2001. I had saved the link to my first post but the page is gone now. I do remember being part of a online group attached to Compuserve (believe it or not). I met a few of them at either the Anaheim ANA (1995) or in Denver the next year....don't remember which.
I would like to know what happened to Marguli. He is from my area and was posting at NGC for a long time after being banned here. Then he just disappeared. He had quite a eBay set up going for awhile. I used to see him at Long Beach rummaging through foreign coin dealer's cases.
Also, (maybe you know Tom)....what about ArtR who seemed to be a pretty knowledgeable guy so I assume he was part of the original boards?
Geez, yes, ArtR, ricko, kokimoki, supercoin, caitlin, pmh1nic, MICHAELDIXON and JonR as well. No doubt there are many more who still post here or have left. Some also changed their user name upon registering for the new version of the boards.
I met ArtR a few times and he had some killer coins. I even sold a coin or two to him that I haven't been able to replace in the two-plus decades since he purchased them. He was a really nice guy and I hope he's okay. If I recall correctly, some coins in his collection were sold to ANACONDA and they were items that led him to these boards.

Only been here 15 years Tom, but as I look at old threads, it saddens me that many no longer post or are likely dead. Looking forward to who answers your call!
Lots of people have come and gone over the years. It makes you appreciate that time is precious. It's something you can't buy.

Just a youngster here, joined as a YN on 3-19-02.
Looks like you beat me by a few months. My join date (under my original name, "northcoin") was 7/27/02. Due to software issues I had to rejoin (as "1northcoin") on 2/6/2019.
Interestingly, comparing the first 17 years to the most recent 4 years I became more "likeable" and more "LOLed" since adding the 1 to my name. (1.5 k likes compared to 8.1 k likes, and 106 LOLs compared to 325 LOLs.).
I joined at the very end of 2007, and I absolutely love this place!
I have been into coins since the 80s when I was a kid, but I fell out for a few years, but late 2007 is when I got back into the hobby and I haven’t looked back!
I was on the old forum in the late 1990's. I've turn over most of the coins I had back then including the 1845-D half eagle variety 13-I mention by Doug Winter as having been rediscovered in 1999. I wrote an article that was published in Coin World about the process of rediscovering the coin and the researching of mint records and auction catalogs that went into detailing when and how many coins of this variety were struck.
I remember TomB very well since his website had the most thorough articles on the toning process I've every read. I also well remember Wondercoin and the friendly battles over the value of modern MS-70 coins. Others that stick out are Ricko (the 1911 icon) and Airplanenut because I'm also an airplane nut. There was also a guy named GSAGuy but I don't see him that often.

October 2002. This is a great place, although a lot of knowledgeable numismatists were banned. Wish BiddlesBank was still here, some came back as alts as BB BONGOBONGO. Most of my pre 2002 coins are still raw, but I had one of five from the Russ Logan auction slabbed for registry, 1806 O.106

Nice to have this forum.
Only here since Oct 2006.
Learned a lot from many different members.

I also migrated on 2/23/01, and later that year, I acquired this, now the coin I’ve held the longest.

From just a few months prior to the migration. Nov 2000.
The reverse on this quarter sold me. Very nice for a 63 IMO.

Seeing this thread prompted me to check my profile; I realized my 15th anniversary was 2 days ago! Man where does the time go?

Feb 8, 2002. Under a different user name that I can’t seem to get back!!!!
I joined 4/12/2001. I’ve had this flowing hair dollar, acquired from the late Jim McGuigan, since the late 1990’s.
Dang! You missed out on the free anniversary dessert at your local steak house.
I was here for the old boards and did not join these "new" boards until February 25, 2001
