This is in a collection of ancients I picked up.. I didn't even include it with my other thread about ancients because I figured it was nothing, but, as I'm scrolling through ebay I'm seeing 'proto money' that look somewhat similiar so I figured I'd ask about it.

All it has going for it is it was in a 2x2, in a collection of ancient coins. Is this anything?

it isn't magnetic..

Nothing actually written on the 2x2, I assume?

Without a better provenance, or at least some kind of geological or archaeological context, it would be difficult to assign any identity to such an item. It might be a very badly corroded shipwreck coin (those white blobs in the top pic could be remnants of marine growth). It might be a piece of "hacksilber" from some pre-coinage ancient or mediaeval culture. It might be a piece of native or "raw" silver.

Heck, it could be a meteorite, or some other not-actually-silver object.

No notes on it. I've never heard of hacksilber before but I guess it kinda looks possible. Who knows.. thanks again, Sapyx.

Is it silver? If yes, it can be smelted coins or jewelry. It isn't money certainly.

    Peace.
