Date for this French trade token?

Based on my research, the French resorted to emergency money during various wars. Just trying to date this guy, WW1 or WW2? "Le Polo" Paris, 20 centimes "Fobis" might be a foundry, 19.5mm and Ni-brass. Thanks

  • I think it's a 'jeton à consommer', not emergency war money. In 1902, the French passed a law prohibiting gaming machines from paying out cash, or any prize worth more than 2 times the stake, which was limited to 10 centimes. Therefore, they paid out tokens worth 20 centimes. These had to be spent on the premises. Gaming machines were banned in 1937, so it is definitely pre-WW2.

Very interesting @JohnConduitt I was making my way thru a bazillion 'jeton a consommers' but I hadn't read about the gaming connection. Appreciate the info. Peace Roy
