I don't really think I'm correct, but there is a superficial resemblance between your autograph and the one I have from Jose Canseco. And he played in the era you suggested.

I have a "neat" Canseco in a book, but rushed, with a Sharpie, on a ball...i could see that as a match for the OP's ball.
