VCP prices question

Is the highest price or average price used to get the price of a card? I noticed there can be a difference. For example 1972 Roger Staubach PSA 5 highest price is $511 the average price is $178. Which is better to use to determine the value of a card?

It really depends on why you are wanting to value a card. Is it to establish a sell price, or to know what your collection may be worth, or some other reason? Either way, I never pay attention to the high sale because that can be an anamoly, and instead look at average price, last sale price, last sale date, and trends to get an idea of value.
Okay thanks.

It depends how often a card trades, but look at the pictures, too. A beautiful 5 will go for much more than the average 5. Also, if you see a real outlier it was probably miscoded (perhaps an auto grade rather than a card grade). Good news is there's a "Report" button, and Bobby is amazingly responsive about getting it right.
Also, on the "My Collection" page you can choose to see the value either by Average, Last, or Highest price, whichever is most preferable for your purposes.
So if I want to check the cards in my collection. I go by average price. Thanks.
